Six Pick: Week One

I'll keep it short and sweet. WE BACK, WE BACK, WE BACK, WE BACK, WE BACK, WE BACK ....

Welcome to year four of the Six Pick on TKP. I select (usually) the six best games of the weekend, with an occasional slight bias to VT and ACC games. I pick, usually poorly against the spread and invite you to do the same. This week there is no reason or need for hype, it's time to lace 'em up. Enjoy the games.

OT: If The ACC were the Mighty Ducks

Got into a drunken argument about who in the Mighty Ducks movies most represents the football programs in the ACC. Here's what I had, I'm interested to see what you guys think:

Florida State/Adam Banks: Probably one of the easiest picks, Adam Banks was the best player on the Ducks and FSU just won the NC.

Clemson/Guy Germaine: Clemson has been consistently been the second best program in the ACC for the past few years, Guy Germanine (according to Wikipedia) is considered the second best player on the Ducks' roster.

Top 4 DL in Lane History

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but they're doing an all-Lane team and this week is D-Line. I'll save everyone the trouble and just tell you to click Bruce Smith before looking at the rest.

My 4 were Bruce Smith, Cornell Brown, Corey Moore, Darryl Tapp. Post yours on here and debate all you want.

Michael Brewer Q & A

For the Hokie fans trying to learn a little bit more about Michael Brewer, here is a recent Q&A he recently had with HokieSport.com. An interesting part of the Q&A is that Michael has a brother playing QB for Lake Travis High School. Knowing VTs history of recruiting brothers & cousins, maybe it is not too early for the staff & Michael to start recruiting the brother.
Q: How are you feeling now that you know that its official?
A: I feel good. Im extremely honored to be labeled the starter at a program like Virginia Tech. Im very thankful for my teammates and the coaching staff for entrusting me and giving me this opportunity. Im looking forward to this season.

The TKP family continues to amaze....

Until yesterday, I haven't posted here since April, when my wife and I, and my daughter lost our 18 year old son, Tyler. That post read as follows:

I'm not the most frequent poster here, but i do check in basically daily to see what's up, and it is because i feel like we are a family here that i am writing this...maybe it's purely just therapeutic for me, I don't know.....

My Wife and I, and our daughter lost our beautiful 18 year old son Tyler in a horrific car accident on Sunday. It is only the love and support of our family and friends that is allowing us to cope at all right now. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you all that I consider you family too and to ask you to do this TODAY...

weekly questions thread?

I just thought about an idea for a weekly thread, and I thought I'd run it past everyone to see if there's support for it before I pitch it to Joe et al.

Would y'all be interested in an open weekly thread where people can ask questions about football in general, our team, our schemes, etc. And then whoever knows the answer can respond? I just occasionally have minor questions that aren't really worth starting a whole thread, like "does our defensive line play left and right, or do they switch strong and weak?"

Let me know what you guys think.

BeamerBall.com Updated its Depth Chart (8/24)

There are a bunch of surprises.

I. Ford is the No. 1 X, Carlis Parker is his backup.

The starting o-line from left to right is: Gibson, Wang, Farris, Conte, McLaughlin. Teller is backing up Wang, Wade Hansen is behind McLaughlin, but ahead of Taraschke.

TE depth is: Malleck, Hodges, Cline.

J.C. Coleman and Marshawn Williams are Co-No. 1 tailbacks. Shai McKenzie is the backup and Edmunds is third-string, but really the fourth man. I'll make an educated guess and say Edmunds isn't 100% recovered from his injury, but it's encouraging that Shai is.
