Six Pick Week 4

Welcome to Week 4 and already it's looking like the top 10 are really separating themselves from the rest of college football. I'll be brief this week, because have you seen this week's lineup? The schedule makers decided to let us enjoy the outside weather, instead of watching must see tv football. You know the drill on weeks like this; A) if your significant other wants you to do something, do it and B) upsets are sure to happen as fans aren't the only ones unimpressed by the games. Don't worry, next week the games bounce back strong, starting next Thursday night!

"Foe"Rensics: Marshall

Hello. Welcome to this week's installment of "Foe"Rensics where we give you an in depth look at this week's opponent with information sourced mostly from Wikipedia and my imagination. This week we venture into the cheery, sunny climes of a tiny town nestled deep in the mountains of West Virginia; Huntington, the home of Marshall University.

(I'm only going if Radha Mitchell will be there, you guys.)

1. So hey, we didn't lose to East Carolina!

A. We sure gave it our best effort, though, falling just short in the end. But my GOD, our defense...I always thought those James Gayle in a Bane mask posts by Joe were funny but now...I'm not sure it was a joke. Who's our scout team quarterback this year? Can you imagine being him and waking up EVERY DAY knowing Gayle was going to try to de-arm and de-head you?

Video playback help needed

OK you PC gurus, I need your help. I posted in case others may have a similar problem. I'm missing out on all these wonderful TKP analyses because the video clips are basically not viewable for me...they just play back in jumpy clumps rather than as a smooth fluid flow. I'm surfing on an antique laptop: Dell Latitude D600 laptop, Pentium M 1600Mhz, maxed out with 2GB ram, XP sp3, 32MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 video adapter, DirectX 9.0c, Broadcom 570x Gigabit Integrated Controller. I got laid off months ago and can't justify springing for a newer PC right now. I've searched the web but found no suitable answers. Is there a setting to force videos to be fully downloaded before playback begins?

Hokies mentioned in PTI

Michael Wilbon referred to Oregon as the "new Virginia Tech"...a team that wins every game they're supposed to win but will (probably) lose in big games.

Don't know if I should take that as a compliment or insult.

Injuries and Other Observations

Some other thoughts and comments from the first few games:

1. Willie Byrn looked like he got hurt pretty bad on his big third down conversion. As usual, he was open coming across the middle of the field on a crossing route. Logan hit him in stride and he turned the corner for the first down. However, as he fought for extra yards along the sideline, he awkwardly twisted to the ground as he took a hit to his lower body and audibly groaned. He limped off the field on his own, but I don't believe there is any way he won't be out for a few weeks and possibly much longer. I hope I'm wrong.

Capitol One Bowl Mascot Challenge Week 3

So, even though it appeared to be 50-50 to the end, they gave us the loss, and we now face Sparty of Michigan State.

http://capitalonebowl.com/#/matchups/3/5

I couldn't watch the game, and my car's steering wheel isn't too happy with me after listening to what I could on the radio during my trip, but at least the team got the 'W'.

Spread the word...the Hokie Bird needs our help. Stupid purple pirate...

Where Will Exum Play?

I like every other Hokie football fan have admired the determination and hard work Exum has showed to try and get his knee back to 100%. He is a beast and I am rooting

Glimpes of 2008: ECU Game Review

The 2008 Virginia Tech team had two defining characteristics. A defense that allowed just 16 points per game and sometimes single-handedly won football games, and then an offense that was absolutely nauseating to watch. The team only topped 30 points once all year, and beat DUKE 14-3. Ultimately that same offense managed to pull a '06 Chicago Bears move and make it to the postseason, and actually won the Orange Bowl behind Darren Evans.

What does the fox say?

Fox on the field at Texas Tech

Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! There was a fox on the field during the Texas Tech-TCU game. Video here, I couldn't get it to embed :(

For those of you who don't get the reference:

Dwight Vick is the Man

So... I know the Collegiate Times is unpopular around here...but I went to a speech engagement by Dwight Vick yesterday and was truly blown away by the work he's been doing since graduation. He's a really down to earth, caring individual that's been truly embodying the Ut Prosim mentality.
