Yes. Agreed 100% - stipends are even across the board, and keep boosters out of it. I am all for easing the financial burden on athletes, just not by involving rich boosters/alumni.
But the issue is that he isn't actually getting 10k for an autograph... He's getting 10k to sign with that school, and the autograph is the loophole through which he gets it. If T. Boone Pickens came out and said "I love 5 star recruits so much, I will personally buy an autograph from each one that comes to OkSt for $100,000" you have boosters buying recruits...
It's tough because recruiting is already so sleazy sometimes. If you give people an inch they're definitely going to take a mile and get every advantage they can out of it. I like the idea in theory though, you just need to smooth out some corners...
It really sucks that a player can't get $$ for a signature. Having said, how freaking stupid can you be? Why would you risk your eligibility for some money? Especially when your parents are loaded, and if you can keep your nose clean, you'll get millions from the NFL in a year!?
A weak schedule doesn't mean you should be rated higher. I see it all the time and it drives me nuts - people rank teams based upon where they think they'll finish, not how good they think they are, hence Texas, Ohio St, and Louisville rising up higher than they ought to initially, then hanging around up there because their SOS sucks. If a team's sched is a cakewalk, they'll get up the rankings simply by being undefeated (a la Boise St). No need to give them a head start.
We don't deserve to be on there after a 7-6 season. Then again, neither does USC.
My overrated schools -
-Ohio St - good, but not #2 good.
-Louisville - recieving the patented WVU "surprising bowl-win bump". I worry with a high early ranking and a pathetic schedule, they'll back there way into contention...
-Texas - they're always ranked high... I've sorta started putting them into the FSU and Miami "I'll believe it when I see it" catagory
Agreed - and lets be honest here - it wasn't his fault Marcus was a complete dumbass who got himself kicked out for stomping on that dude's leg. And it wasn't his fault Ike couldn't learn the playbook and had a drinking problem. Glennon shouldn't have been starting, but it's not his fault he was the best we had at the time. I don't get all the hate.
Not for Kelly - he got a show-cause penalty. He'd have been fired if he hadn't already moved on...
That Russell Athletic Bowl took a lot of editing to make it look like a remotely good game...
Whatever dude, I hear he's faster than Wilson. Guy probably runs a 4.1725
Someone mentioned something about a suspension in another thread...
You need big plays to be able to run it after a big play...
for those who didn't want to read the article, in summation:
UNC - great offensive skill position guys, worrisome defense, lost 3 very good starters on the o-line
Canes were complaining about being at FSU and VT every other year. So now, we're at GT, Miami and UVA every other season.
#goacc
But East Stand tickets? Aren't those usually sold out?
I've never heard of it. I guess it's the perfect storm of a crappy home schedule (I mean Pitt or UNC are the two "marquee" home games - yuck), lower expectations, and crappy economy... I bought mine, though.
Pitt's o-line includes 2 freshmen and a converted d-lineman, and the 2 returning starters from a year ago are in new positions. In addition to that, the quarterback is Tom Savage (who is rather slow-of-foot and prone to turnovers when pressured)...
NCSt is #53, which is right about the same spot. Plus they're breaking in a new head coach, new qb, and weren't exactly world-beaters last year anyway.
Wake wasn't a bowl team last year, and lost it's last three games by > 30pts. I'd say the rankings are pretty fair - there are just some poor/mediocre teams in the ACC this year...
Dance-off.
Wake and NCSt have also been on there already... I just didn't post them as they aren't opponents and I didn't want to spam the discussions feed with it...
Protip: If you hit "reply" to the message you're replying to instead of posting it at the bottom, your reply will be in line and will make far more sense than they do now out of context.
Also, can we please let this thread die? Clearly you and several other people are of differing opinions regarding whether or not making fun of the looks of a girl photographed hanging out with our o-linemen at a party is a cool thing to do. You aren't going to change my opinion on this matter. You probably aren't going to change anybody's opinion on the matter. So just stop trying.
Well played, sir.
I still say that the idea that these are accurate to the hundredths of a second are absurd. ESPN's is probably the most accurate of the lot.
Really? I'm not sure it really helps Miss St. I don't think the fact that he considered both Bama and UGA to be higher than us was simply because of the SEC affiliation. I think the SEC is respected because of those programs. Had VT been in the SEC, I really don't see recruits suddenly bumping us up to their (Bama and UGA in this instance) level. It goes a lot deeper than that.
He has the grace of butterfly...

Boosters may pay recruits now, but it's a lot riskier, and that opportunity for trouble levels the playing field a lot. I think giving the boosters a greenlight to pay is a mistake, and would absolutely crush any semblance of competitive balance.
