Illinois Hokie's Recent Comments
There was little pre-2018 optimism. Most comments were in the vein of expecting defensive struggles with the hope of an improved JJ behind center making the offense be able to carry the team. Most preseason predictions were in the range of an 8 win season. Go back in time and warn everyone that we would lose JJ in our third game of the season, and I think most people would have whittled a win or two off their prediction.
Beating FSU and our defense looking competent while doing it made swallowing the truth about this year's team that much harder to swallow.
I understand why you were wet. I don't understand why Hokie Magruber was wet.
I'm sorry, but if people are actually going to argue that rolling the pocket is an unnecessary risk, there is simply nothing to discuss anymore. Corn critics will find something to nitpick on every playcall.
Great finish after a too-close first half, and a great palate cleanser after the Military Bowl.
I realize that was a really dickish way to say that originally. Let me try to rephrase more diplomatically.
There is no reason you aren't at your goal yet except for sticker shock of requiring a full year membership up front. Leave the cheaper yearly membership with the keychain, because I'll keep doing it that way, and most current members will. But I guarantee you will increase your revenue stream by adding a monthly option.
You're dependably at about 65% of your stated goal with your current model.
Decide if you want to take the next step.
I've said this for a couple years now.
The ability to tag specific users. TKP is well behind the curve on implememting this functionality. Mentions are an integral part of any social media platform.
For those baffled by the move, there is no love lost between Holgerson and WVU's President and AD. They would have found a reason to let Holgerson go within a season or two. This is honestly the best decision for all involved parties. Also, I think when the details are released, I wouldn't be surprised to see Holgerson make more money at Houston. (Not guaranteeing it, just won't be surprised if he does.) Houston has deep pockets and is throwing money at the football program in a bid to become P5.
Why are you wet?
Wait...don't answer that.
Nothing about that pass was a great throw. It was floated rather than trying to lead Hazelton to where only he could catch it. Trying to draw a PI is fine with man coverage, but the defender had safety help and Willis, once again, failed to properly read the coverage.
Opener wasn't in the rain. There were a fair share of missed tackles that were quite literally slipped tackles.
Also, more than a fair share of our tackling woes is due to defenders being out of position or taking bad angles. Those things make good tackling technique basically impossible. You are right that there wasn't significant improvement in tackling through the season, but the game also hasn't slowed down yet for a lot of our defensive players. You can say that's inexcusable after twelve games, but player development doesn't care about your opinion. Sometimes it takes a couple years for players to adjust to the P5 game. Sometimes they don't ever adjust.
Oh yes it is.
I disagree. Rolling the pocket was to account for the blitz. It would have given Willis enough time to make a throw if he doesn't trip over his own feet.
Yup, this. Play calling continues to be the red herring of this season. May she rest in peace.
Nope. Rewatch the play. Willis just tripped himself up on a standard roll of the pocket we've seen him do dozens of times this season. Just a fluke.
I'm extremely proud of this squad for finding a way to keep the bowl streak intact. However, I'm not at all surprised to see the season end on an ill-advised, badly underthrown ball by Willis. We wrang every ounce of production we could out of him, but his limitations are his limitations. I'm ready to see JJ resume the reins, or QP seize his opportunity by the throat.
I'll lay down a $200 bet next season's record is better than this one. Loser donates to the Hokie Club and posts an image of the receipt.
Makes tons more sense now. Thanks for that, and glad it's probably not his health.
This is so out of left field, I feel like it almost has to be something personal or health related.
I say bring it. College football needs a return to its regional roots.
Fans of literally every other program in the country are saying this today.
Riley didn't trust his defense, and honestly that's not a dumb call.
One's transitional.
