yes blew a pickup and got Brewer hurt

This, I think, is the most notable sign of improvement I've seen. When something goes wrong and a defender comes free, you can point to one lineman and say, "Oh, he missed his assignment right there," or, "He was supposed to scrape," etc. When Newsome's lines let four defender's into the backfield one second after the snap, I couldn't tell you who was supposed to do what, and I'm guessing neither could the players.

Yeah, I don't think he was even on the market when we replaced Newsome. I know everyone was in love with Grimes, and I do believe Jeff started a culture change here, but from my vantage point, I think we might have fallen up. Searels seems like a really good fit for what we try to do on offense, and he's bringing back the mean streak not seen in Blacksburg since the Jake Grove era.

Coleman, Trey and McMillian are all in the 20s for carries so far, and all are posting good numbers. If they can continue to have success with a three back rotation, that means all three are still going to have fresh legs in November.

Searles might not be the top-notch OL coach that everyone wishes we had

So where is this somewhat pervasive sentiment coming from? The line has shown steady improvement throughout Stacy's first season and into his second. He is grooming Wyatt Teller into an all-ACC guard and has brought Nijman along enough to be serviceable in live games in the course of a summer. Besides TKP writing staff's disagreement with his practice of allotting practice snaps, what has Stacy failed to do to make people think he isn't a great line coach?

This one surprises me a little. It looks like this isn't the ACC Network game of the week, which means no television interest should be setting kickoff time. Whit said whenever he got to set the kickoff, VT would kick at 3:30.

Good to know. Regional sports networks usually means CSN and random coverage picked up by network affiliates directly, right? RSN and ACC Network are typically two different animals in my experience.

People act like a contract is some sort of a solemn vow or a matter of honor. It is neither. A contract is nothing more than an agreement, and any contract worth a damn has clauses to cover what happens in the event that either party decides to stop honoring the agreement. There's typically a penalty, and then the two sides move on. The notion that Kam "should live up to" the contract he signed is like saying a person is morally obligated to stay with their mobile provider. If you want out of your mobile contract, you pay the early termination fee and get out of it. There's not a lot of morality involved in contractual agreements, because typically speaking, contracts are only necessary when trust is an issue. I'd say breaking a verbal promise is a far more unethical thing than breaking a written contract, again because written contracts typically have stipulations built in to cover what happens when one party of the contract stops following it.

Was anyone else surprised by how completely incompetent Alabama's offense looked when it was under the gun to operate quickly? I honestly don't think they practice the hurry-up at all in Tuscaloosa.

I meant to mention that. Right now we're 44th in Total Offense and 30th in Scoring Offense. After week 3 in 2014, we were 81st in Total O and 68th in Scoring O.

I should look into that. I'm 99% certain the problem is the gas valve is frozen shut. It cycles through the startup motions, the hotplate burns like it should, but when you hear the click for ignition...nothing. This happened once before and that's what it was, but it was under warranty then. This one's gonna hurt if that is indeed what it is.

I noticed the part number has changed since we went through this last time, so hopefully they realized what the issue was and corrected it in a refresh. Two gas valves going bad in seven years is a little ridiculous.

Assuming Ford doesn't get broken in half at some point. It looks like a viable WR3 isn't in the cards this season, which means another gauntlet of a season for Ford and Phillips. One thing's for certain, if Ford survives his college career, he will arrive in the League with enough endurance to avoid rookie burnout.

Short answer: he's included.

Virginia Tech has traditionally used two running back positions: the tailback and the fullback. Although he only has four carries thus far on the year, Rogers has established himself as a player in the traditional run game, and as such I decided to include him. The only "back" position that isn't included is the quarterback.

Might have just set a new record for how much I can possibly disagree with one post.

You can't handcuff your mobile QB by shying away from letting him run. Motley lacks Brewer's accuracy, but makes up for it with arm strength and mobility. I would personally prefer a zone read on QB runs instead of designed QB draws, but maybe they don't trust Motley or the current stable of backs to run the zone read effectively. You have to make defenses respect Motley's run threat to open up his downfield passing options.

Feel free to have that triple of bourbon, just smile while you have it.

Another fun fact: Brenden Motley, whom I am still reading quite a bit of uncertainty about after two starts, is currently 25th in the nation in passer rating among qualified QBs, at 161.75. I doubt we'll see his rating stay quite that high when we hit tougher competition, but that won't happen for a while, and in the meantime he's displaying a thorough familiarity with the passing scheme.

The scouting report is out on Bucky and every team is going to game plan for him. From the early going, it looks like he hasn't developed enough as a receiver to overcome blanket coverage. But his lack of productivity is directly responsible for Malleck and Rogers looking so good in the passing game early. All the focus on Bucky is a good thing for the passing game as a whole, because even though we don't have a third option at WR, we have multiple receiving threats.

A sophomore slump for Bucky is a net positive for VT, because it means we have him for at least another year.

Herbie just said a field goal doesn't do any good for Ole Miss in a six point game...
