Are you on the Tyson Helton bandwagon now?
We are the big dog there.
Incredible. Lab Leak Theory, but this time to fix VT football
I would assume those in the know are aware of such things, and could be ONE of the reasons to distance themselves from this ref in this case. If they weren't, they are now. Too many eyeballs on big time games to be doing dumb stuff. (Look at the other thread with audience numbers...Duke football MAY be able to get away with a smidge, but $EC football cannot withstand the blips. In a Duke game, it's a one-off. In an $EC game, they may lose that audience and/or betting money in the future. I'm guessing there's a LOT more $$$$ laid down on a Georgia game across the country than a Duke or other low level viewership team.)
What you are asking for is common sense, and as such is the prevailing momentum all common sense will be ignored or at best not implemented.
See the recent arrests by the FBI involving the NBA. Seems the FBI is making it a heavy focus.
Its in the photo but Stanford, Michigan and Cornell
With the rise in gambling and the ease to get involved in a game-fixing scam, this needs to become common practice. While I do think some leeway needs to be expected for refereeing, as their is an inherent level of error that comes along with the difficulty of refereeing, the ability to disguise bad refereeing is too easy. And harsh penalties should become the norm for patterned behavior.
It would be a good idea to have a federal sports gambling commission to help keep the games clean. This commission should be paid for by MGM, FanDuel, etc., should consist of FBI-like training (specific to gambling), and endorsed by every major professional and collegiate sport.
...if Shane's last name was Smith...
Shane Smith anagrams to "Math Shines". Which it does, because math is awesome, but Shane's math, as seen by the statistics in the article, is not that great.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Smash Thine", which tells me that if he comes to Tech, he is going to woo all our wimmens. Don't want that either.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Sheath in Ms", which means see above.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Meats In Shh", which means see above again, but with some darker overtones.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Mash the Sin", which means see above again, but also could be a catchy catchphrase.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Mean Sshhit", which is true, he does have a bit of a temper.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Mensa Sithh", which tells me that he is secretly an evil genius Sith Lord.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Ha Mess Hint", which hints at the fact that it will be a mess if he comes here, and other programs see that and are laughing at it.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Ha Sent Hims", which means that other coaches are pranking him by sending him ED medicine.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Hash Stem In", which means that he doesn't take the stems out of his weed before packing the bowl, which is bad karma. (Or is it not? I don't know.)
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Ham Then Sis", which......nope, I'm not going there.
Shane Smith also anagrams to "Math He Sins", which makes me think that he thinks it's okay to divide by zero, which it isn't, not ever.
And finally, Shane Smith anagrams to "Has Men Shit", and for that reason, he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the Virginia Tech program, ever.
Miami got a $400m cash injection when their university hospital profited so much from treating COVID
New fundraising plan: (1) create the "New River Virus", (2) create the antidote and vaccine to the virus at Virginia Tech, (3) have Carillion School of Medicine the sole provider of treatment, (4) set the cost to $100K+ for treatment, (5) have the US gov't or an oligarch subsidize the costs for treatment, and (6) purchase an elite football team.
Right. The next 3-4 years are CRITICAL, and we need to be positioned well when the endtimes come for the ACC.
Who are the other three?
FSU won't be able to up the ante too much, as they'll be paying millions in coach buyouts every three years.
As they always put Miami, FSU, and Clemson on prime channels of course they are going to get better numbers.
Notre Dame should not be part of this chart due to their separate contract, period, full stop.
As others have said, when we get pushed to the CW I am pretty sure we get worse numbers than even the ACC channel.
I hope we can keep that potential roster together and healthy because with someone proven like Ventresca at 125 it just gets that much better.
"On the Hokie Sports Insider Podcast episode with Evan Hughes that dropped Thursday, Robie broke the news that Eddie Ventresca, a two-time All-American at 125 pounds, was approved for a medical hardship waiver and has another year of eligibility remaining."
I heard somewhere last night or this morning that he's definitely still going to be wrestling this year, focusing more on Olympics type stuff/Olympics prep (disclaimer: I am not exactly a wrestling follower so I don't really understand the difference)
One ref should not have been suspended, it should have been the whole crew and the review booth based on that video.
Pshaw, what's the fun in keeping all the sticks for myself?!
So players strike and the league folds. No more women's professional basketball. Got it.
If you'd pick the home team all season you'd be winning the league right now
EDIT, would still have been a 1 pt lead over Ashore after week 9.
the UNC one took me out lol - bravo
I think it's more that it seems like there are too many cooks in the kitchen and many of those people are not on a single page of what we need. It seems to me like we had stated a plan for this next hire(s) and then decided to just half ass it as we go along and hope that we fall into a good hire.
Sands fires Pry, they hire a committee to filter resumes, Whit makes the hire. Seems to me like nobody wanted to Fire pry that could and nobody wants to be the person to hire the next coach to me. All the while we stated we are hiring a GM but nobody knows what the position will be for and who it will report to. Just seems like we are winging it as we go along because there was no plan for after we fired the football HC. From my perspective it's just all complacency and going through the motions to fill a position.
Hiring Shane seems like a 'We tried nothing and we are all out of ideas" position to me. Don't get me wrong, I like Shane and think he is a good coach but I just don't see it being the best hire for the long term future of VT football.
the only way we're done sooner than Nov/Dec is if we hire Franklin - which is a move I wouldn't love but we could do worse and with the shear number of openings I'm expecting there to be this winter I do worry that we're going to have a lot of competition which could result in us settling on a coach that wasn't a top pick for anyone (sorta like Pry)
