Yeah, for regular people. Not Clemson football players.
I mean, my wife works for Chick-fil-a corporate. We can absolutely be bought, and have been already.
B1G? Not anymore
cash typically flows the other way at services....
You'd be going to church too if they were funneling cash to you during services
Yea, the church piece is big there, and I don't think I could be a student there for that reason (no disrespect if that's your thing, it's just not my thing). I've heard that campus more religious than ND.
But I'd also be surprised to learn the student experience at SCar is much different.
When I was there the bars closed at midnight on Saturdays because they weren't allowed to serve alcohol on Sundays. That's changed, but it was a massive bummer back when I was a freshman. Still, a lot of people go to church on Sunday so Saturdays are probably still pretty dull.
What I'm saying is that the corporate greed incentivizes putting recognized brands in front of the viewing audience
Is VT not getting televised or something?
Also, it's a better fan experience to put more recognitized brands on TV? Like, why wouldn't you televise the team that will have the most viewers? That will make most people happy.
I'm just not sure what you're insinuating?
- I don't believe there is a quid-pro-quo between the SEC and ESPN beyond what is laid out in contract.
- Maybe VT was left out of hosting because of facilities/infrastructure. That would suck but that isn't espn doing the SEC a favor
- Maybe the committee truly didn't believe that VT was a quality team. Poor judgement? sure, but not conspiratorial.

Did he let you have one to test out?
Big, if true.
I wasn't saying it was against us, not at all. What I'm saying is that the corporate greed incentivizes putting recognized brands in front of the viewing audience. VT is NOT a national brand.
ESPN isn't bending for the SEC. They NEED the SEC in the spotlight to appease the shareholders. ESPN, ABC, Disney, and the Mouse dont care who it is as long as it maximizes profits, and right now (and has been since Saban arrived) SEC elitism is how they manage to keep profitability high.
Exactly, not every decision made is a conspiracy against us
Maybe if we just let records and conference championships matter then we wouldn't have this issue. Any time opinions factor into things there are going to be teams that get screwed. How about we just give out hosting bids to conference champions and then fill in the pool like the NCAABB tournament? Screw the hospitality aspects - if a team wins their conference, they host. People will find a way to get there to see their teams play.
More likely explanation: SEC programs have better onsite infrastructure (because they host big football games and whatnot all the time) so they are in a better place to host these things.
I don't buy the conspiracy that espn is bending for the SEC. Maybe the nfl but not the SEC.
We needed (past tense) to start investing in hospitality infrastructure decades ago, and now we apparently need to catch-up. Lack of hotels in the area has gotten better, but its never been enough to meet the demand when big events happen. I get why it wasn't a priority - its a bad investment when you can only maybe sell out your hotels 8 weekends (maybe) in the Fall, and once (graduation) in the Spring. Softball creating demand in the Spring helps, but we need more. The idea of bringing more concerts into Blacksburg is one of those ideas, but we can't replace the playing field at Lane multiple times a year, and Cassell is a difficult place to host anything beyond the sports it already does.
Softball as a sport is entirely backed by ESPN... who is owned by the Mouse... who has a deal with Lucifer... who is an SEC homer.
Is anyone really that surprised the SEC got gifted the majority of host teams?
I'm just hoping that what looks like it will be a lengthy layoff until the eastern conference finals doesn't take them out of the groove that they are in. With Rod at the helm, I don't think we have to worry too much though. At least they'll have time to rest up and recover
Here are the official statements/quotes from Virginia Tech and the NCAA regarding the #Hokies being denied of a softball regional:• Virginia Tech was NOT denied because of Tech Softball Park.• Virginia Tech submitted hotels outside the NCAA's required 30-mile/50-minute... pic.twitter.com/k8jGuPDyDm— Tech Sideline (@TechSideline) May 11, 2026
I'm sure rules would be stretched for other schools and conferences
The Canes are a machine. Its one of the most defensively sound teams I've ever watched. They completely take away everything you are trying to do and make you look back in the process. In my opinion, the Flyers didn't regress, this Canes squad is just that good. They completely shut down a scalding hot Ottawa team in the first round as well.
And to be clear, this form of the Canes didn't come around until there were a couple weeks left in the season when they went up against I think Columbus and Detroit, both fighting for their playoff lives and held them to 19 shots combined over both games. That's when you saw them really put it all together and show what they were capable of.
Philly was always going to have a tough time against that defense. Montreal or Buffalo likely will as well. Its just not something you can adequately prepare for.
was immensely frustrating watching the January Flyers reappear after looking like they belonged in the first round
To be fair, this Canes team is very, very good - I don't know if the Flyers regressed, or just the matchup with the Canes made it look that way
The newer dorms are way better than most hotel rooms you'd get in this area.
Just read an article in the Roanoke Times that stated flat out that we weren't considered a top 16 seed for other reasons, but if we'd have qualified, the lack of motel rooms would have ruled us out. They cited the quality of our losses and schedule strength. Definitely time to make some real noise the only way that it counts.

Yeah same. If it's not your thing it's not the place for you. Same goes for dressing up for football games. SC has similarities, but I think it has a larger percentage of students from out of state (MD, NJ, New England) so I think there's a lot more kids who aren't going to church.
