You are right. A few years ago, I had a fishing trip planned and it happened to be graduation weekend, for Tech and for Radford. Our lodging fell through and I spent something like 4 hours and made maybe three dozen phone calls looking for a motel room. I searched south for a while, but didn't want to add too much travel time back to the Bay, so I concentrated north. I quit when I got about halfway between Roanoke and Staunton. We canceled the trip and learned yet another lesson about no room at the inn.
This is what I saw on twitter
Natalie Honnen, selection committee's chair, said the NCAA denied the #Hokies' bid to host. Graduation is next weekend and hotels in the 30-mile radius are limited."They did not [meet the requirements to host]. That did not come into our decision of the top 16 seeds."— Sam Mostow (@bySamMostow) May 11, 2026
The thing that sucks is that having graduation and the regional on campus at the same time would be a great atmosphere for softball.
Also, if we ever get a home playoff game (which sounds ridiculous now, but with the changing format, who knows), stuff like this will come up again.
I'm sure the NCAA has rules against putting teams in dorms.
Except the shit only seems to happen with us. Did they explore using the dorms? Majority of them are empty.
Ok man. Sometimes shit happens. It isn't a conspiracy led by the university
Columbia, SC is a really not nice town. USC campus is nice, but you get a few blocks away and it gets Not Nice fast.
College experience there, I think,, would be below par
Yes, I'm a Hokie and I experienced Blacksburg for my college experience, so... Hell yes, I'm biased.
Kick their F****in SEC asses over and over and over and over.
Every other school makes it work and a good many of them are in small towns.
Not to mention, they've won every game against the $ec this season
Why? That's life in a small college town. Graduation brings more dollars than softball. Everything is not an embarrassment. Sometimes it's just reality
Frankly thats embarrassing if even remotely a possibility
Maybe seeding impacted by VT graduation and no available hotel rooms. There seems to be a bunch of smoke around this issue as being real.
We are capable to go win at LSU and at Bama!
Let's Go!
It is a lot like Blacksburg except it is super lame.
I haven't been to a game at Clemson since 2018, but it was a lot like Blacksburg (which I haven't been to since 2017) - 6 bars in a central downtown that everyone goes to. Every time I've been we've walked from rental to tailgate to football to bars, really easy.
I'm fuming. Genuinely.
How in the fuck are we not a top 16 team? I know this isn't a perfect team but holy hell. 9 of 16 hosts are SEC teams...
Ya got a badass of an ace. Ya got a flamethrower of a freshman behind her. Ya got a shitton of bats. Just gotta go scorched earth and do the damn thing now.
smh
We got hosed but Texas Tech has bigger gripes than us. Texas Tech has been top 5 most of the season, loses the Big 12 championship game and drops to the 12 seed?
oh bama in supers? maybe 10-0 against sec will be loud enough
just going to have to go 8-0 against sec i guess and still no one will bat an eye
Hosting teams with 18 loses (who tech beat), 14 who tech just beat in ACC Tourney, 15 losses, and two 17 loss teams!
You can tell our girls are pissed off. Golf clap on live broadcast when everyone else was dancing
Fucking Bullshit we have to go to LSU
Screw the selection committee.
LSU 9 less wins, 7 more losses
Texas A&M 10 less wins, 6 more losses
UGA goes .500 in SEC and lost 6 OOC games but gets the 10th Region
Mostly the culture. Clemson is a big culture shock if you're coming from NOVA or Jersey, SC is less of a culture shock because there are more people from out of state. Academics at Clemson are slightly better, but I felt like I was the smartest person in a lot of classes which I don't like, when I transferred to Tech I was right in the middle.
As for Columbia vs Clemson, idk that much about Columbia although I've never heard complaints from people who went there. Everything off campus in Clemson is really spread out, including off campus housing that people live in Jr & Sr years. Buses aren't great so you have to drive to get to everything. Some of the fraternity houses and apartments complexes are in different counties. Grocery stores were also kinda far, that may have changed. There is a big risk of drunk driving. Also a lot of kids go home over the weekend so it can sometimes be hard to make friends.

You can't seriously suggest hosting an ncaa regional tournament and putting visiting players in dorms?
If another school tried to pull that off, and our girls were put in dorms, we would be clowning them on here, talking about how the NCAA should have rules against playing a regional in a place that doesn't have enough hotel rooms.
