Pats on the back for recognizing a problem that should have been obvious years ago, and was directly brought to their attention years ago and promptly shut-down, followed by endless meetings about meetings, where we *circle back* to discuss next steps and action items, and then maybe make a collective short-sighted decision via committee in six months time.

If its not too late and french actually intends to go through this game film (bless your soul). Can we just have a montage of "what the f were you doing" defensive moments? Something to bring some levity and humor to this situation.

# | It is shit or get off the pot territory for Virginia Tech and its football program We opened up as just a 10 pt favorite vs. ODU at home which in and of itself is embarrassing, but when I saw it I still thought that was too much credit to us. The market agrees and its already bet down to -7.5. I doubt VT covers that and it really feels like they will lose that game given the no show we saw in the 2nd half. Being a fan since 2010, I've seen plenty of terrible, spineless, lackluster play especially the past 5 years. But that 2nd half at home felt like a new low that solidifies just how bad of a place the program is in.
I want to leg this so much, but it's already at +42, and I think that the Ultimate Question to Life, the Universe, and Everything now has something to do with firing Brent Pry.

As a program we just got swept in home-and-homes with Purdue, Rutgers, and Vanderbilt. We routinely lose to programs like Marshall, ODU, Liberty, and ECU.
We have a top 2 fanbase in the country, but outside of that we're mediocre at best.
how do we fire the BOV?

Do I trust the current administration with the additional funds? No

There will be another gathering of the minds next month when they discuss what we might be able to do to close up the hole
we haven't scored more than 20 points all year. If we're going to win this game, we'll have to win by holding ODU to 14 points or fewer
I'd hammer the under, for sure. I don't have a lot of confidence that we'll win and cover, though

We have to go through that list and make sure those guys have no interest. VT is a clear step up from their current job for all of those guys, but it probably doesn't get them closer to the big job. So it depends what their ambitions are.
I think this is a pretty weak cycle for coaches, I'm not sure there's a candidate outside of this list that's qualified or would work out. I think we need to be real about our football expectations if we can't land a guy on this list. And just paying a lower tier guy big money isn't the answer.
I think Sitake has worked wonders at BYU, people expected them to suck the past few seasons and they've vastly exceeded expectations. He also greatly raised the floor from their last few seasons as an independent where they were routinely losing to G5 teams.
Wommack did great at South Al but that is very different and different footprint from an ACC job and recruiting the east coast. He has good experience at Bama but it's not Nick Sabans Alabama. I think he's competent but not an ideal candidate imo.
Maybe we could get a guy from the Oregon staff? They always seem extremely well prepared and well coached. Yes they're talented but we see talent get mismanaged all the time in the SEC, Miami, etc. Have seen the opposite from Oregon
Every BOV member who spoke at this year's retreat supports investing in athletics.

I've got conflicting thoughts about this. On some level, I'm not sure that it's worth taking some $50M from academic-supporting pots of money and throwing them towards this fucked-up athletic funding model that we're in.
Probably deserves its own post, though.
Lol, I even bought some of Bud Foster's WIN-brand cigars and WIN-brand vodka this weekend. Smoking one of the cigars while tailgating apparently did not help the cause.
Didn't previously know these existed until TSL hyped them on a podcast. My first thought was, "hey, Bud is becoming a businessman - good for him"! My thinking now is, "sorry Bud, pretty shitty timing - might want to rethink that branding".

This ship isnt just heading in the wrong direction. It's actively taking on water and this administration isnt even bailing the water out, much less trying to plug the massive hole.
There's multiple questions to be answered for sure. Will we ever be in a position to compete for a national championship? Probably not. But can we do better with the resources that we do have? Absolutely. Surely there is another QB with a $1M asking price that can hit 5-10 yard passes and read blitz pressure.
Could VT do better if it had $20M/yr more in funding? Yes, in the macro sense.
Could this staff actually make effective use of $20M/yr more in NIL? At this point, I don't think so.

I said that Fuente needed to fire Cornelsen after the 2018 season if he was going to be a serious HC. Basically, I hadn't completely closed the door on Fuente but firing Corny was the indicator of whether or not he was a good HC.
Similarly, I feel that way about VTs administration. They need to fire Whit. If they don't that means they don't know what they are doing or they don't care. If they fire Whit in the next month they can save face. If not, then we're stuck with an administration that can't get it done. Firing Whit is the indicator.
FTR, I don't think this administration has any interest in firing Whit so I think it is highly unlikely to happen. Whit will resign or retire before he's fired, IMO. Our football program is completely rudderless at the moment and the administration is asleep at the helm. This ship ain't turnin' around any time soon.
I would argue that:
None of those guys are a given to workout. Coaching hires are a crapshoot. Just the nature of the business.
Hell, deboar could get fired from Bama this year, and I think that would be a great get for VT.
