I saw this nut-kick of a summary of the 2025 2026 recruiting class today (emphasis is my own):

Tech might win 3 of these. Maybe Clemson and Miami could hang and get you greater than 6

I started looking at schedules within the conference and every team I looked at it appears to have an easy to manageable schedule with the exception of Clemson. I guess that's how bad the ACC is now. With only 4 (at best) good teams, 8 decent teams, and 4 terrible teams, everyone's schedule looks easy.
This made me start to look at other conference schedules and yikes...we might want to thank our lucky stars we are in the ACC. Here is an example of an average SEC schedule. Oklahoma:

Michigan
Temple
Auburn
Kent State
Texas
USC(e)
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Bama
Missouri
LSU
How many ACC schools go 6-6 with that schedule?
Well, I was 31 years old then, 75 now, and truthfully, I'd have to sit down with reading material to bring that year back, but I remember it was the only game I could make that year and I sat in the end zone. Having spent some time in the corps when the VMI rivalry was still a real thing, I was doubly let down by VPI that day.
Or we could just do another actual Home and Home. Those people took care of the Hokies that went to the game out there.
It's not the numbers that are the issue. It's the situational management of the players. It's not like there are 3 qb's with the same number. We weren't the only team penalized for that last year. That doesn't forgive it, but it does happen.
And fwiw, Bammer had 36 double numbers last year too. All I see in here is that we need to spend and emulate the big teams if we want to compete with them, whether it's NIL, player rooms, weight rooms, practice facilities, etc. Well, all the big boy football teams have double numbers. it has to be a part of the deal with over 99 players being a part of the team.
I was curious how this compared to other schools. Here's a small sample with a couple blue bloods another probably closer to our funding level:
Ohio State - 24
Georgia - 45
NC State - 38 (including 3 w/ #8 & #25)
34 seems pretty normal? The problem is that the coaching & support staff is missing it, not that the players have duplicate numbers.

# | All future games at ODU canceled - 2028 game in Blacksburg also canceled Will probably never happen...but would love to see a "home and home" with TAMU in Washington DC and Jerry World. The only two colleges in the country with P4 college football programs and active corps of cadets.
Replace an away OOC game with this, I think both programs would be happy.
I know, you've come across my mind a time or two, but it just hasn't worked out. The little one is currently between crawling, climbing and walking and is an absolute wrecking ball. We'll have to find time for a watch party or something this football season.
my wife is a terp and I live in Northern VA, so I've been talking about getting a bus for our friends to go to that game. Otherwise, probably wouldn't have been on my radar

34 duplicate numbers 👀
there is absolutely no need for that. At MOST there should only be 11 duplicate numbers if we have 111 players. There is really no need to have three times that. And, even then, there are surely players who will never sniff the field - they should be the ones wearing the duplicates.
I swear, if I see duplicate numbers on the field this year I don't care if Pry wins 15 games, I'm done with him

# | All future games at ODU canceled - 2028 game in Blacksburg also canceled Wish I could give it an extra leg. Bought a Hokies football card and shipper added Cheers collectors cards as the protective filler to protect the card I bought. Had a nostalgic moment going through those cards.
The duplicate number thing just proves we aren't serious about fixing basic mistakes. Cost you a game and got away with it the second time. Just ridiculous.
Parker Clement's gave up more sacks than the rest of the OL combined and was one of the worst in all of college football for that. Guaranteed better line this year imo
I know they are a bit spooky, especially with our history against in-state opponents lately. Another reason to just let this fade away.
Looking back at the Wikipedia page for the VT-VMI series the last loss was 1981 and we went 7-4 that year, that's not any worse than our last several years. Am I missing additional context?
