Dang ozzy and hulk in the same week... Who is next, dogg the bounty hunter?
Chuck Mangione's death is getting overshadowed by Hogan's death.
All these high profile deaths do not feel so good.
That has been the solution that Tech has been doing for years. Let private business provide the rooms. That being said, the motels are generally full enough that they keep operating year round. They just charge extra for football games. My boss makes a killing renting her house via Airbnb for the games as well.
RIP Terry. Some of his movies and TV shows were so bad they were good.
I could see an argument that VT would prefer to stay out of that responsibility by letting the town, city of Christiansburg, & NRV as a whole shoulder that burden but also reap the benefits of business. In other words, avoid VT being an all-inclusive resort for major sporting events.
But also, and much more probable, is that there would be so much debt incurred on the construction with very little immediate ROI when you factor in all of the dead periods for the Inn. Given the awkward financial state the/all universities are in right now, building/expanding something that is not a home run profit driver would be reckless. Just look at the abandonment of the plans to build the Student Life Village.
South Carolina is 80 years older than USCw. They get to be USC to me.
You know you're getting old when all your childhood heroes are passing away.
Even though he wasn't a standup citizen in real life, he pretty much single handed resurrected pro wrestling and made it what it is today. A true icon from that standpoint. RIP
Rest in peace brother.
Every famous septuagenarian that peaked in the 80's has to be nervous right now.
I really do believe the covid piece, though .... we managed it badly and it impacted our chances
Sad man. Loved him as a kid watching wrestling
Dang he was a legend for decades. I just revisited his wiki. His match vs Andre the Giant in 1988 still holds TV viewership records for a wrestling event.
RIP
Except the majority of Americans feel as though South Carolina should be referred to as a directional state school.
I agree that a single hotel is small impact. But if we're hoping to maintain the charm of Blacksburg I think we need a lot of small impact upgrades. And, in that vein the Inn strikes me as being near the top of potential hotels that could actually see a return on expansion investment. Plus there is room adjacent to the Inn that could actually be built on. Other nearby hotels don't have that advantage.
Unfortunately I primarily play with you guys on sleeper.
Still going to all the home games and some away. 3 hours away in Richmond. We just take our time exiting after the game; walk slowly to the lot; leave the back way from lot 18;and drive home(if I have to stay in Roanoke I might as well keep going as I'm 1/3 the way home by then. either that crash in the car for a bit and leave a few hours later).
Ideal? Maybe not - but keeps my costs way down!
Well, the fishing woes continue for we Mid Pen folks. Went this morning with my neighbor, Hokie Paul the trout man. Met up at 5 after a long drive...lie, it's not even a block but he does have a long driveway, to fish the East and the North rivers of the Mobjack Bay. I was the big numbers guy today with 9 fish total. Paul got two. I caught a menhaden, two spot and 7 croaker. All foul hooked on Gulp and since I did hook the menhaden in the dorsal, at least I got a thrill until it came to the boat. The other fish were bait sized. Paul got the first fish of the day, a foul hooked menhaden. You might now see that there was a ton of bait in the rivers, and I do mean a ton, most I've ever seen and big and little baits. Problem was, other than a couple of individual chasings, likely small bluefish, the bait was undisturbed. I'm pretty sure I saw a shark fin in the mouth of the North. Would be a good sized one.
And lest the bleakness of 4+ hours of two guys fishing 9 spots without a decent bite is a tale of woe, Paul did manage to catch a 19+ speckled trout on a fluke that could have eaten all of the dinks I caught but the menhaden. He's a master at that bait. Now, we face a long spell of temps in the 90s, that'll help, right? Water temps this morning varied from 85 to 86. Damn, that's stupid hot.
Khalil Herbert was pretty damn good too
Correct. Travon McMillian was a better back than how he was used- i.e. whenever he would break off a big run- he wouldn't see the ball for 2 quarters- interesting to say the least.

# | With Doak Campbell renovations nearing completion - FSU announces reduction of 12k seats in new capacity I'm not an hour away, but I can relate with the rest. It's more expensive than it should reasonably be, the traffic is a disaster, and it's all to watch a sub par product. It's why I haven't attended a game since probably '09
My auction draft fantasy league is very serious, so it is unlikely he goes under others' radar, but I hope I can snag him for cheap.
If I bet, I would be good for 5 bucks on that!
He's the best back we've had since Wilson. A legit threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball.
Agreed. I met Pal on one occasion and talked with him for a bit. He seemed like a man that was content on doing things right in a local sphere and, like you mention, keeping his footprint where he could pick up and drive to a location to see firsthand how things were doing. Sometimes staying small and local does not preclude success.
Apparently that's by choice. It used to be any way. The East Tennessee kids that went to University of Tennessee used to beg and plead for a Pal's in Knoxville, but Barger said he didn't want to expand so far out that he couldn't drive to visit any 2 locations on a given day. I also think he wanted to keep the brand known as a unique SWVA/NETN location.

Wow. An absolute legend and icon in music and now wrestling gone in the same week. Unreal.
I think Hulk is on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling no doubt, but also a cultural icon similar to Ozzy. As OP mentioned - huge pieces of childhood all gone at once.
RIP to the Hulkster. Going to have to blast "Real American" today.
