Your response is why most recreational golfers can't break 100. Go straight for the pin every time. Don't practice lag putting, Fuck your 50 yard slice- aim that far left. you will card 89 in a couple rounds. Now go follow the glossary and look up where I was wrong about that stat. I wasn't but try to change the topic and prove me wrong.

*sigh* I based the hybrid distance off what you said they hit their 6.... But as always, you've changed the hypo. Should have just listened to the the glossary. There's a reason you're an entry.

And my advice to a 28 handicap trying to break 90 is the opposite. Probably gonna be inconsistent enough anyway that playing it safe is not actually safe so just fucking go for it and have fun with it. Because you'll damn sure remember that one you do actually hit close every once in awhile more than grinding out a bogey or two. Thats the last I'll say on it.

Yep- come back win against a mercenary slime ball program.

Some of that could be the clubs too. Club building has changed a ton the last 30 years... meaning wedges are more forgiving than ever and build for swiss army knife- bunkers and fringes more than they were 30 years ago. I used to hit a great consistent 5 wood years ago. Now, the way those clubs are built- with a much lower center of gravity- its a different swing. And I haven't hit that club as well since.

1. A 28 HCP doesn't hit 4 hybrid 195... so lets stop there. 2. How would you suggest someone break 90? hope and pray and hit bad shots OB? Nail the one good 6 iron dead to the pin when you do that 1 in 100 at the range? I'd like to hear your plan . And here is the nuance you are either ignoring or missing.... Hooked drive totally over the top shit turn swing- bad shot. Horrible. Stays on this side of the cart path? bad shot BUT playable- no need for a drop (read extra shot that blows up my score ) Another drive- shit turn, swipe accross it- right of right into the houses. Can't find it. Bad shot, bad swing - penalty stroke AND we have to lay up just like we did with the shit drive that stayed in play. I am not being captain obvious and saying no bad shots- not what Im saying at all. I'm saying control the fucking 100 yard right slice a bit- or shoot 110- I don't care. In terms of 3 putts - same thing. Take a shitty stabby bad stroke all day long- how about don't hit your lag off the green? I could have answered- Hire a 200 dollar an hour top pro to teach you how to actually play golf to a plus 3 index over a years time- sure. But if you think about what I said in the context and nuance of high HCP golf, it makes perfect sense.

I share your frustrations and am also losing what interest I had left after Fuente killed most of it. But I will say, even if the eventual DC hire is not a big name or thought of as a great hire, we could still see some decent improvement. I mean Marve is a not a high bar to exceed. Kind of like we did not need a great OC to make the offence better than what Stinespring did. So if we get a decent DC (and LB coaching), it could be enough to get us another 1 or 2 wins. If Pry cleans up the clock management, that could be 1 or 2 more. I mean, just moderate, incremental improvement in those areas could have us at an 8-4 or 9-3 regular season. From there would be in a better position moving forward to try and be relevant again.

Trying to be cautiously optimistic. But you are 100% correct, Pry and Whit are both running short on time to fix the on-field issues and W/L record.

It's a dark time right now for the 3 revenue sports at VT. Pry vastly underachieved this season with his whole hand picked NIL team returning. Lost 5 very winnable games. Instead of winning 10 games, we won 6 and half the team left and wouldn't play in a bowl. anyone calling 2024 anything other than a failure is lying. The best players on a mid at best OL left, the best CB left, etc to add icing to the cake. We also signed the 43rd class. Pry is not winning on the field, and is not killing it in recruiting either. Duffy has shown flashes and knows how to coach, but she is not going to be supported by Whit at the level she needs to compete in an elite conference. Whit went all in on Brooks- until he didn't of course. Men's hoops has never really been supported sans the early Buzz years when we had more guys in suits than players in the team picture- which is what is needed to compete. Young is a great and proven "coach" but he is not a new school slimeball that is going to kiss runners and agents asses to get a one and done transfer guy, etc. Mens hoops simply can't compete in this environment without wholesale changes in support and philosophy. Common denominator is the president and AD of course. Sure we could have a lucky season or 2 or find an under the radar QB but that's not realistic. Dark times right now.

When I was 55, I was a 4...briefly. But that came from hitting fairways and greens, not a Mickelson level short game.

In my 30's I could hit a 56 degree wedge almost straight up off hard pan. Somewhere along the way I lost that. And I'm turning 70 in June so there aren't a lot things that are going to improve from here on out. But yeah, practice over specs for sure.

Score also balloons if you're blasting a 4-hybrid twenty yards over the green because you took two extra clubs....

And sorry but saying just don't three putt is laughable. Pros three putt all the time even when they're trying to lag putts. You're just saying "get good"

Looks like he is eagerly awaiting the launch of Girl Scout Cookie season. I have the pile of boxes in my dining room ready to go next week.

Sorry to hear this man. The job market for professionals sucks right now. It's awful. Tailor your resume to each application and send in 1000 or more applications. You will find something eventually. Good luck to you.

Unless Pry pulls a rabbit out of a hat here, I think he's pretty much done and dusted. It just seems like we're missing on our top targets and unless he nails this hire I don't think he'll survive another year of bad football. IIWII. College football is changing. VT is getting railroaded and there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it. The sport at large has become much less fun and interesting for me in the last 5-10 years and with VT's decline and apparent lack of vision to get better I barely have anything left to hold onto. It just kinda sucks right now and I don't see how it's going to get any better any time soon without MAJOR overhauls

I do agree here. I think most of the "inside" info from the other sites these days is being directed from the admin/staff. Nobody is going to tell it straight like it is anymore for fear of being cut off and losing their business model. The tenor of said inside information is also becoming increasingly defensive of the staff's position. Case in point as you mentioned defending lots of Fu recruiting reaches. It was also spun that Crook was a good hire because of simplified scheme and great developer - serious turd polishing there when we knew Rudolph left us in a bind and we went bargain shopping for a coach who had basically checked out but wanted a paycheck still.

VT sports is becoming almost unbearable to be a part of anymore with the utter incompetence and bs quite frankly from all involved.

If Techsideline or (and I love him) Billy Ray Mitchell actually break inside news - real news regarding VT football, it will be the first time. Both are just propoganda mouthpieces for the program. Hell even Bitter wont ask a remotely tough question anymore, because they are afraid Whit will pull their press pass. They have PTSD from Weaver telling them to fuck off and he wasn't giving a free sign in blog press creds.

I feel like this is whats happening to me now. I'm trying to be my best self, but my body just won't allow me to be as active as I used to be. It's kind of disheartening, honestly. Pulling back the reigns really feels like I'm not doing what I could be doing, if that makes any sense. But I'm going to have to slow down, I'm so sick of being injured even when I'm not over doing it.

Yeah I mean, come on. If we aren't supposed to discuss/speculate and wait on primary sources, going to be a quiet board until the VT news release comes out. There's also some additional detail behind paywalls on the other sites that I won't share. Just my best guess on what we are doing at this point given the timing.

That's why I charge a premium too. Common Sense and chasing your tail are bad habits but ignored by hacker golfers and wanna be major college football programs. Business is good these days! But in terms of golf- I was being dead serious and not a smart ass- for example - 170 yard par 3 over water. You are trying to break 90- that is going to be hampered if you rinse this shot and card a 5... soooo what do you hit 170? 6 iron? cool. Do you hit your 5 iron rock solid most of the time? Yes? hit the 5, aim for the center of the green. You are inconsistent with the 5? OK can you hit a 4 hybrid solid a little teed up? Oh yeah thats my favorite shot... hit that- center of the green. 2 putt and lets get the fuck out of here. Orrrr- you can try to step on your 6 perfectly, which you never do and come up 10 yards short in the water, have to hit an akward 80 yard drop shot close or make 5 or worse. That is what I am talking about- not trying to be a smart ass. You are chasing a score- penalty shots and 4 putting blows said score up- quickly.
