To get this discussion back on track...if anything I think he may be giving our secondary too much respect. We're good, no doubt, but we've struggled with big physical receivers a lot in the past few years and they have two monsters on the outside. Add in a dynamic force like Switzer who is going to be occupying safety help, our defense could be in a lot of 1on1 battles that tilt in their favor. Also intresting how he noted that they played against two very different pass defenses in Pitt and Florida State. Each team tried to slow them down in different ways and neither was very effective. I'd like to think we have a slightly more complete defense than either (Florida State has the talent obviously but looks out of sorts, Pitt's cornerback play has been atrocious) but we won't know until we play this game. This will be one I wish TV offered better camera angles because I'm keen to watch how Chuck Clark aligns and reacts to a passing scheme that is going to try and keep him from helping anyone over the top.

What I don't get is the constant need of some to continually try and throw cold water on any positive energy surrounding the program right now.
No one's throwing cold water on optimism. It's being thrown on people calling out a neutral third party who gave some reasonable responses and some very insightful answers that are being ignored because he had the gall to not pump sunshine up our asses. The only disrespect being shown is towards the UNC writer. There has yet to be any discussion of the actual game in this thread, only griping over someone who wasn't gladhanding our fanbase.
It's fair enough to respond to "opponent O will win" with "the fuck they are, because X, Y, Z" where X, Y, Z are intelligent football thoughts/arguments. However, the rah-rah, lowbrow comments that appear in many threads have brought down TKP's collective intelligence and high quality of discourse that made reading the comments and interacting enjoyable.
Somewhat related from the content aspect of TKP, there's a lot of time and care put into what's published. As a writer and editor, when the discussion on a front-page post devolves into comments like 'let's show these pole smokers what's up' (as verbatim as I could remember), you're less motivated to write something high quality.
There are many other outlets for puffing out your chest and spewing nothing but unintelligent trash talk. Use them for that purpose and not TKP. Ultimately, it's adding noise to the discussion on TKP, and it's not a big deal every once in a while, but it doesn't need to be done over and again (especially by the same TKPers). And as I said above, there's a way all at the same time to be excited, proud, and objective about Hokies' football.
As the community grows, it gets harder and harder to maintain a high level of discussion. I've said it before, but it's up to the longtime TKPers to set an example. Otherwise the community will degrade to one you don't want to visit.
I guess I am the odd hokie. I don't see any problem with the Hokie account posting a list of how good the pass defense has been. We have been DBU since Torrain played under Bud Foster. The Florida defense is also VERY good. Second this year under Florida isn't bad especially when you consider has Florida played anybody that actually throws the ball? UT doesn't.
We don't need anything fancy! Just some good folks to hang with. We literally got a car and clothes lol that's about it. I'll def give you a shout once we get parked we had just planed on parking and walking around some anyways. It is much appriciated. Again if you need me to bring anything let me know and I'll grab it on the way in!

This is kind of starting to bug me. Has anyone checked out the fact that Trubinsky trots the 40 at a sub 4.6 clip, and he was actually touted as a highly ranked dual threat himself coming out of high school?
He doesn't showcase it, because he can spin the ball all over the field, and he's pretty surgical. I would imagine though, that if the passing game isn't there, Trubinsky is a threat to run. Dude's got some wheels.

It's a question of rest vs. rust. If the team is reeling from some bad games, and some guys are nicked up, then the BYE week serves as a needed re-up, and timeout. However after ECU, the Hokies were like a hot Malcolm Delaney raining down threes. What do you do with a shooter on a hot streak? Feed him that rock.
Don't know if it's a killer disadvantage, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Hokies start slow out of the gate Saturday.
Honestly, I think VT, UNC, and Miami are in a whole different class from the rest of the Coastal, and its going to be a fun 3 team slugfest to get to Orlando.
Pitt might have something to say about that. They gave UNC a hell of a game.

The money started on the Hokies and hasn't stopped. The betting experts don't usually jump in until a couple hours before the game, so we won't know what they're doing until gametime. If they side with the public (which isn't very often) then I'd say we have a great sign.
