Losing home games is getting old too after being dominant. Winning all home games this year would be nice, but Hokie Nation needs a big stage win, not a Tulsa toilet bowl, either.

We learned in 2014 that Loeffler's willing to forget about an entire season and game plan for just one game. Somehow the BC offense will be a finely tuned machine next week and only next week.

I think the offense showed it can dominate but it's mentally fragile.
If it toughens up quickly we'll be OK

Not really. The fumbles that already happened, are mutually exclusive of the fumbles the future
...So? Mutual exclusivity and regression to the mean have nothing to do with each other. One might say they're...mutually exclusive. If I flip a fair coin 10 times get 9 heads, the next 10 flips won't be influenced by the first 10, but I can still say with a pretty high degree of confidence that the odds of getting heads isn't 90%.
Second, there are only 12 games in the regular season (small sample size). Thus, even if VT averaged the average fumble rate from here on out, because it's only 10 games they average for the year will still be pretty high above the mean.
This is true, but if VT averages the average fumble rate from here on out, I'd be okay with that. If you prefer, we can call it a regression to the median? The salient point is, the fumble rate we've seen for the first two games is absurdly high, and there's no way it's sustained for the rest of the season. If you doubt this, let's set the +/- on fumbles lost per game for VT at the end of the season at 4.5, bet $1000 on it, and give me the under.
I have been living in Atlanta for over 6 years so I understand what it is like to be surrounded. However, the GT fans are worse than all the SEC fans put together.
I miss watching my Giants and going to Mets games. The rest of my week will be listening to complaining about how bad the Falcons are. The only joy will be hearing other people say f Matt Ryan.

Pro: Did anyone else but me catch the look on CJF's face late in the game? It struck me as " I will remember this, and I WILL get even". I know he has a calm demeanor on the sideline that I actually like, but there is a fire simmering there.
Con: Our young men need to grow up. Some of the penalties were exacerbated because of our lack of composure. How do you let a loudmouth freshman backup QB on the bench get in your head?
Will be interested to read French's review and hear about this week's practices. Also, anyone have an injury report?

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? Positive - defense looked good (mostly). Not sure how often you'll hold a team to less than 400 yards and give up 45 points.
Positive 2 - scheme and play calling. I think it's actually fairly impressive that our offense committed 4 or 5 turnovers and still produced 24 points against a (at worst) decent defense. Especially in only their second game.
Negative - the obvious answer is penalties and turnovers. In a word, discipline.
Negative 2 - this team did not handle adversity very well. At the first sign of trouble the offense completely unraveled and looked out of sorts most of the rest of the game. I do want to use this point to re-emphasize Positive 2. Our offense produced 400 yards of offense despite the players looking rattled. Imagine what they'll do when they can maintain confidence through adversity. I think the future is bright.
We knew damn well that we wouldn't win this game. We are fully prepared to go, at best, 9 and 3. We are exactly where we should be. The sky is not falling. I'm interested to see how they respond against BC.

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? What is hard to fathom and not sure if silver lining: even deflated, we continued to advance the football. Continued to confuse the UT defense. If you shut your eyes and plug your ears right before the flag comes out, or right before the ball comes loose, all you see is 400 yards of offense and a running game that has somewhat of a pulse.
No worries -- didn't mean to be sensitive. But, I promise you, if you lived here and put up with the SEC love-fest and condescension toward all other football conferences (and VT specifically), you'd probably have a better understanding of my sensitivity on this subject.
To be clear - I love living in Nashville for many many other reasons. College football just isn't one of them.
I'll take a Coke Zero, but close enough. :-)

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? Yeah, we lost our confidence in offense when punched in the mouth. I was watching Evans closely to see how he would react and lead his unit. His eyes started darting around, his body language said " Awwww man!"
But his comments after the game showed good leadership. We need to get better, no doubt about that, and he has to lead us on offense. I'm not sure Evans has "it" per se, but he's our best option and can be more than adequate. He looks like he has young Marquise Williams skills to me. Looking forward to seeing him progress. Starts this week. Get better.

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? I'm gonna go opposite of the format of the thread. Start with the negative and conclude with the positive.
Negative: after one mistake (1st fumble/TO) the snowballing avalanche quicksand effect immediately came into play. I felt that only a handful of the team really maintained determination and will not only to fight, but win. Cannot let one mistake turn into a sinkhole. You have fight, persevere through and ultimately overcome it.
Positive: a faster, quicker offense with more plays. I believe we will get better. I believe we will BE better.
The mistakes and mentality MUST be eradicated. Fortunately, for this Sat, Foster is more than familiar scheming against ol' Lefty.
Until someone shows me the specific rule, I think it was a crap call. Teller hit the DE low away from the play, but it is was within 3 yards of the LOS, wasn't a High/Low, and initial contact was at waste level. Will include the first flag in my review without comment.

# | Ask TKP: What's your one positive and negative takeaway from Battle at Bristol? Not just getting more focused in practice, but I'm concerned that after two games with similar problems the loss of faith (amongst the team) from qtr 2 at Bristol might extend into qtr 1 and beyond of the next game.
Hopefully on film review they (he team) can see what we are seeing, how good they were when they were working together and following the plan, and how much cleaning up a few things can help.
Also concerned they don't internalize the lineup/substitutional decisions and develop a negative response.
Everyone is over sensitive today. Wasn't trying to belittle your years of experience.

There was one play in which Mihota stuffed a speed option all by himself. I figure that will make the review.

French, that is putting it kindly that you didn't care for the call, it was just the plain wrong call. That was legitimately the only call we got a decent replay of all night (thanks Bristol/ESPN), but it was clear the player did not have possession while still in bounds, and having a SEC Replay crew didn't make it any better. But also was their not a missed call on targeting with Evans? I've been to over 100 Tech games and haven't seen such lopsided refereeing in a long time.
