QB and OL to me will still be liabilities. The bad news about Appy State is they gave the best kind of scout look. Their O isn't a perfect match to Fuente, but they used many of the same concepts. The linebackers should be better (and they got better as the game went on.)
Side note, the day I heard they were taking the statue down, I biked over and climbed up in a tree to take this picture. The statue was already down but they were still disassembling the rest of the shrine.
Do you think we'll see any RPO vs Liberty, or is this going to be the Spring Game game plan?

This is usually due to cleaning up execution errors, timing, etc. What makes me rather optimistic is that the improvement doesn't usually solve systemic weaknesses, like bad OL play. I hope somebody sent Bud a drool bucket today, cause I think he's gonna need one when he's game planning for Bristol.

If you cover up a scandal, it's because not covering it up would lose your competitive advantage. In Paterno's case, the competitive advantage was all about running a clean program, but it turns out he swept a hideous, ongoing crime under the rug. And the reason he did that was because he didn't want to hurt the brand.
If people ignore what Paterno did, and continue to honor him, it's condoning his behavior.
To each his own then, but be sure to report the Alabamas, Clemsons, and FSUs for their on field success creating an unfair competitive advantage in recruiting too, even though organic recruiting advantages are not what are deemed worthy of vacating wins. No team that has ever had a recruiting violation has had to vacate a win unless they've played an ineligible player.

I've commonly heard it said that teams improve the most from game 1 to game 2. TN obviously has some area they can improve a lot on, and I expect they will, but what is reasonable for them to correct in one game vs something that will take a long time to correct out of the issues:
Over pursuit by defense. Bad reads by LBs. QB making bad throws. O-line having trouble with small quick linemen. D-line not controlling gaps.

# | Did Tennessee-Appalachian State Change Your Outlook of the Battle at Bristol? It has made me feel better about a game that I was fairly certain VT was going to lose during the offseason. But last night showed me that maybe even I, an avowed SEC hater, was giving UT the benefit of the doubt for their #9 ranking.
Whether you are running a vanilla game plan or not shouldn't also mean that you forget how to block for the game. Their OL flat out did not look good. I will say a little prayer that Bud treats this game like a debutante ball and introduces one Mr. Tim Settle to society at large. If the guy has gotten his conditioning up, there should be a lot of opportunity against UT's center in particular.
I still think UT certainly has more talent than us overall, but I see an opportunity for our Dl to get pressure and the secondary to do work. If Evans comes out tomorrow and is ready to rock and roll with Travon, Bucky, and Ford, I will feel really good about our chances next week.

I would agree with you if this were the NFL where players are drafted, and traded, but when you're out there trying to sell yourself to players and you're actively going out of your way to ensure the actual nature of the program you're leading isn't seeing the light of day to make yourselves look as good as possible, then it falls under a violation to maintain a competitive advantage.

See above. Maintaining a false image is not a competitive advantage that is measurable on the field any more than using recent national championships and draft picks is a competitive advantage.
That's not a competitive advantage, like paying a player, playing someone who is academically ineligible, or anything else that creates an uneven playing field for their opponents. It's a moral issue that shows poor character, but it means nothing on the field.
I think you will see two of the three on the field most of the time. One WR will be removed when Fuente brings a second tailback in to align in the slot. One will come off when they utilize a true tight end and an HBack. It depends mostly on rotations.
On passing downs, I expect to see Hodges, Ford, and Phillips on the field. Still unsure if they will use Rogers at tailback and Carroll in the slot, or move Phillips inside and play Deablo on the edge. McMillian is a threat in the passing game. There are a ton of options right now that we can't anticipate- but the good news is that other coaches can't anticipate it either.
I might need a boat to get out of the yard here in SC.
How can you say he gained no competitive advantage for it? The whole reason he overlooked it was to protect the image of the team he'd built, and the abuse was ongoing AFTER he knew. At a minimum any wins after he knew about the situation should be removed.
It's easy to fall into the trap of "Oh, don't want to hurt the fans", but the fans are the reason he did what he did.

100% disagree with that. The whole message being sold to parents, coaches and recruits about Penn St for all those years was how they did things The Right Way and how JoePa was this great humanitarian coach who would go out of his way to ensure absolutely nothing went wrong under his watch. The reason this whole thing was covered up was because if word got out, that whole mantra would have imploded and the myth of Penn St would have evaporated. The coverup was done specifically to protect the competitive advantages they had created over time.

I have no idea. I have heard rumors as to why this is happening. I can't validate them, and even if I did, I don't think I would report it. Wyatt is a hell of a player. If he wants to have a future in the sport, he just needs to go out and be great in practice and his time will come.
would be a shame if he did...I never like to see anybody get hurt. But, if he is hurt, who is behind him on the depth chart? Is Tenn. comfortable with their backup QB? Could we be going into a game blind next week and not knowing what we're getting from the QB spot for Tenn?
