While factually true, I've lived an hour or so from Bristol for all of my life, save the years at Tech. Most Hokies from Wytheville east do not fully understand or realize the beast that is Volunteer football. UT had over 100k, not a sellout, for a Thursday night game versus a formidable, but pretty small school. They have the whole SEC religion thing going on. There are people I work with that are UT fans, but don't generally go to their games, that are camping out starting Wed/Thurs. Not that we should be worried.

I have faith that we will be louder. However, they will make up a significant portion of BMS next week. Like I've been saying all summer, be prepared for verbal and physical shenanigans. I expect plenty of fights, especially for those on the fringes of the stadium mix or those who bought tix in UT areas.

It's a bigger phenomenon than you are realizing.

The part that bothered me the most is that it wasn't just freshmen and sophomores that have no idea what Beamer has done for VT. There were so many adults leaving

Ha, I was gonna ask this. But he didn't hurt himself, that App St helmet did. The way he went down, I'm thinking he got the wind knocked out of him and at least bruised ribs. But they were both moving at a good clip, I would not be surprised if he didn't crack some. Knowing the SEC, I'm sure Tenn'd still report it as bruised ribs, strap him up in an extra thick flak jacket and throw him out there next week. Kid ain't gonna want to miss a game like Bristol anyway.

The Kannibal has to be salivating, either way.

I'm not ignoring what he did at all and I think I've said as much. His behavior was deplorable, but that's him as a person and not him as a coach. As a coach, he had more wins than any other coach in history. That's not really debatable.

My wife and I were in the stands looking around in disgust at everybody filing out. We were embarrassed for Frank. It sucked :(

I was so disappointed at that. I couldn't believe that's what I was seeing. That's one reason hopes are high this season. We need some feel good wins to help make a step forward from the legendary era that is Frank Beamer.

Remember how Butch Jones went over and addressed the Mountaineers after the game? And how they just looked at him blankly, like "Why are you talking to us"?

Some people thought it was classy, but I thought it was more a lack of awareness.

If App State had recovered that fumble instead of Tennessee, would Butch Jones have wanted an App State coach addressing his team?

That was going along with the question I had. How much would Vol defense improve with Reeves-Maybin in the whole game? Is he the linchpin?

My feeling is that Butch held back on play calling, but I'm not sure the Vols would have been successful last night with a more wide open approach.

Is there a specific reason why you had to take a train versus another mode of transportation? Not trying to get too personal.

I think there will be RPO stuff. The run game won't vary much from the Vols game plan. Read the defender and make the right read and the O should be fine.

Passing game will be vanilla.

We legit should start a beer exchange thread though. It didn't work out for us because I confused tailgating this weekend with tailgating at Bristol so you may not be too late. It's the only thing I'll think/dream about for the next 8 days

I took the train-Crescent line- down to New Orleans to see my beloved Hokies succumb to FSU in '99-but not before we scared the shikes outta some Seminole fans....the train ran out of alcohol just after Atlanta....too many Hokies on board.
But using that as context, do you see a run back to the top for VT as possible given the recent mega-changes in the program?
And if not, what is VT lacking for said run?
