He wasn't going to be fired this year. All it takes to see that was understanding our financial situations (funds available and where they are going) and what the market is for a quality coach. The only way he wasn't coaching VT next season is if he retired, and it sounds like he at least wants to keep going. CMY is probably looking to finish out his current contract and then hang it up would be my guess.

You could make the case it would be beneficial to fire him for a variety reasons that are actually legitimate and not just fan whining or being unreasonable. But none of that matters if the AD isn't going to direct funds to mbb. Not gonna disagree that football needs priority, just saying that if you want to be a tournament team most years in basketball, we need significantly more funds for coaching/staffing. Quality candidates won't look our way if you fired CMY and offered a minor increase than what we have now. So until the athletic department indicates it will break off a larger piece for mbb, Young is...fine. You won't totally suck, you'll be hohum with an outside chance of being a tournament team if everything clicks one year

Lots of experience in the field this year. Holmes and Hall are there, along with the rest of the top finishers from last year. I hope Paige's dogs want to go fast this year.

It would have been surprising if he was fired this year; it wouldn't have been that shocking to me if he'd said he was tired of it and went the way of Tony Bennet.

That said, he built up a lot of good will by overachieving in his first few years, but seems like we're consistently underachieving (not by a ton, but still) since winning the ACC tourney. We pissed away a lot of games this year that will probably be the reason we just miss the big dance.

I don't know if this has ever happened before, but with the exception of Santa Clara in the WCC tournament, all 7 teams listed as last four in our first four out are all on the road tomorrow for their finales.

They are 19-6. 2-1 at the Hokie Invite so far. They beat BC 7-1 yesterday and Bryant 7-1 today. They beat then #22 Arizona St as their only real notable win. Have played alot of games in Virginia as they were at the UVA invite (Party at Palmer Park) for five games and stayed in Virginia to run rule shutout both Liberty on Tuesday and JMU on Wednesday and now five more in the Hokie Invite.

They are top 40 in RPI. And they are historically a pretty good softball program. So yes

I think this is heavily influenced by the renewed focus to make football really good again. Thats where the resources are going to go until they go bankrupt or make it nationaly competitive again. Honestly, Young mostly keeps them in the conversation most years and thats pretty good IMHO compared to historical VT basketball average.

My wife asks this question every game, and my answer is always the same. You know it was a charge if the ref calls it a charge. Disagree all you want, but that's the deal regardless.

I was watching the softball score scroll the bottom line during the basketball, but never caught the final score. Good wins for both teams. Tourney went chalk except for loluva.

Yeah, I think the Lady Hokies came out still frozen and took the first quarter to thaw out. They need to forget those scoring droughts against GT and come out with the same toughness and drive tomorrow.

GO HOKIES!
