This year the game falls on my birthday. I'm really hoping this isn't my worst birthday ever.

Thanks everyone!! Looking forward to getting started and getting to know everyone. If there's any questions you guys want me to ask at events or any stories you think would be interesting, hit me up!! I am a man of the people.

Celebrating in the most TKP-appropriate manner:

Welcome aboard, Ryan!

Welcome! Can't wait to see #Sauces you dig up for us...

Perhaps I'll see you around campus some, considering I'm entering into Tech this fall in the same major

Welcome look forward to your contributions.

I haven't followed recruiting closely this year (frankly, I haven't followed VT football closely since Fuente has taken over), but my blink is that he has done a very good job of identifying kids who fit his system and fill the needs of the program......while not doing well with the high profile recruits.

Maybe it's a system offense and a system defense and both can succeed outside of the recruiting rankings much like Johnson has done in the past at GT. Or maybe filling the needs with mostly 3* kids is an easier road {row} to hoe in season 1 of recruiting and we will add higher profile recruits more in the future.

My inclination is to lean to the latter, we have recruited higher profile guys and had minimal success....this year and in the past in reference to the defense. And when you recruit a kid, you commit resources....$$, manhours, emotional equity....so not getting them is a loss. But recruiting 4 an 5* kids is tough when you are a new coach taking over a .500'ish program, going up against Bama, FSU, Clemson...even UNC and Tennessee. We need some wins to minimize that disadvantage.

Thanks for that, HokieMc, it had to be said, and you said it. There is never a good time, nor has there ever been a good time to lose to loluva. Ever.

Ah, but to correctly MadLib it, we'll need to offer a few more blanks to fill in:

Why Is [Fuente's replacement] keeping [recruit we haven't signed yet] on the [non-playing status] when he's clearly the [superlative] player at [position]?

When Syracuse beat us...sometime in the 2003-2005 timeframe, I forget which year...my buddy, who I consider a good friend but I hadn't talked to since high school (2000 HS grad) called me immediately to gloat. What a bastard.

I want this to go on for as long as possible. I've been fairly obnoxious at times during the last 12 years and if they ever win again, I know some UVA fans that will probably call me immediately after the game ends and I'm not ready to deal with that yet

I saw suwannarut on golf channel last week. Watched for a few minutes with my coffee before headin to work. He had a couple nice shots for the short time I saw him. Welcome to hokie nation.
I wonder if playing enter sandman when vt players hit the first tee is a thing?

i kind of agree and sort of as a tangent to this...

would it make it better if it happened this year because the team is still getting used to fuente's system or next year because it is at loluva?

so if we are 7-4 and uva is 4-7 heading in to the loluva game for the next two years, which one would you rather give up? do you lose this year, get it out of the way chalk it up to the team not having the system down (but a loss at home to loluva)? or do you give up next year's game and chalk it up to being a fluke rivalry road game loss (but a step back of sorts in fuente's second year)?

in my ideal world we beat them 45 years in a row (breaking the record by 2) and losing number 46 at loluva in what i think would be 2047

im torn...but the 2012 season was so disappointing we almost may as well have just thrown this in there

yeah, and no one on tkp would say it's good that VT didn't get one of the top 2 recruits in the state because he used a lambo to announce his college choice, nor claim that he's overrated....
