Just a question. Would this hold true if a reputable news source (ESPN, RT, RTD, WaPo, etc) ran a story that the University had not yet commented on?

This is a broader question than this particular circumstance. I'm asking because if a reputable news source (as opposed to a paid access gossip forum) reported something about a player's private life, I'd feel comfortable commenting on it here. If that's unacceptable, I want to know now before it happens.

TKP is one of the few communities I'd rather ask permission than forgiveness.

I'll reply here to the comments posted above; this reflects the way I view and enforce the Community Guidelines, though of course Joe can overrule me here. But in our conversations about this, I'm pretty confident we agree.

For example, this story, I KNOW the rumor originated in the TSL subscriber forums, but was being openly discussed on their public basketball boards. Still best to leave it alone?

Public is public. If something's gotten out and is being openly discussed, I say fair game. If those boards are public and it's going on, it's not our job to police that content. In this case, you can provide a link to those public boards. Good enough source for me, especially since it's all really rumor discussion. Seeing information across multiple boards, mix of public and private, contributing your own interpretation, etc. gets into a situation where "fair use" may be in play. I'm not a lawyer, so take that for what it's worth.

My understanding is that you can say whatever you want. If you have information that you want to share, share it. It's just not right to post links to stuff behind a paywall.

No, because there's actually no distinction here. If your only source is paywalled info, don't post it. We went through this a few months back with regards to recruiting. If your only source is a paywalled source, then (1) you aren't contributing to the discussion by posting inaccessible links and (2) you're violating the Community Guidelines by taking information from those sources because that's monetized content from someone else. It's certainly not our job to police other sites' policies with respect to sharing content, but it is TKP's stated policy that our members are not allowed to do this, in fairness to the people who make their livelihoods creating such content.

My confusion is why leave a question that can't be answered without violating TOS on the board?

Asking a question is not a violation of any of the site's terms. I try to jump on such things quickly to stop anything from happening but in this case I was not quick enough. Joe deleted the original sub-thread arising from it, but it came up again.

The only way to enjoy it from afar is the HokiesXtra app supposedly. And that will just be Laaaser and Burnop on the radio call.

I travel to Memphis for work. I would not take twice as much as I make now to move my family there. I think this had something to do with Funte talking so much about family when he came to VT.

Bad officiating happens in EVERY SINGLE GAME, every single day of the season. There is honestly nothing in sports that pisses me off more than fans whining about refs screwing them after they lose big games. If it weren't for Marcus Paige's absolute prayer at the end, this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

I just want to point out how cool it is that I check TKP during the midst of spring ball and the top forum discussion here is still about basketball. That is seriously awesome. Buzz is changing the culture here quickly, and we may not even realize it yet. Honestly, this is great.

I would say bruce pearl and frank martin actually aren't THAT unlikely, they're coaching at football schools (and despite fuente's success i would say memphis is still a basketball school), and memphis has had more recent success than either of those programs.

The memphis job isn't as bad as a lot of people seem to be making it out to be

I bet Wilson is going to be a helluva blocker on the edge too.

Guesses on WR corps?
6 man rotation of Ford, Phillips, Bucky, Wilson, Bradshaw and one of Deablo/Kumah/Denmark. Newsome and Carroll dress and play STs.

Does that sound about right?

This isn't a play, this is a man coverage drill. Our receivers will be targeted on throws like this against a variety of coverages. It's awesome that we have walk ons with the talent to make a catch like this. Equally important on live game situations is having receivers know when it is and isn't okay to attempt tipping the ball to yourself like this.

Then again, this was such a quick progression that Wilson might have just been trying to tip away an interception, then realized, we'll shit, I can still come down with that.

Well, the ACL was one thing. If that were it, he probably would have been back.

But then he did something else to his knee that required another surgery. There's been no official lconfirmation of what happened, but someone here had a speculation about half a year ago.

Four hours and change from the 757 to Blacksburg.
Six hours or so to State College (provided Northern VA traffic cooperates).
Ten hours to Ann Arbor.

A VT camp trip looks like cupcakes compared to the others.

Those names are hilarious. Memphis can get a solid coach but no chance Martin, Buzz, Marshall, and probably Pearl leave to a place like Memphis.
