I was in Raleigh this weekend for the first two rounds of the Tournament (for those of you who gave some advice with tickets, thank you! We had a great time.), and I can say that VT is not far away. Here are a couple of things...

1) VT may have (outside of UNC) the best guard duo in the ACC. Of the teams we saw, only UNC had a better 1-2 combo and it wasn't really that close.

2) We have a couple of really good scorers at the 3/4 spots (depending on where you put Bibbs and Hudson). I didn't see a team (other than UNC & UVA) that could put two guys in at those spots who had the scoring potential that those two have. If Clarke can develop a legit med-range game to boot, watch out!

3) We really are only solid play from a "big" away from being a very good team. That is not a knock on Zach LeDay, but he cannot carry the entire load down low every game. And if we are all honest Clarke looks completely lost on defense when in the paint. If we can get just solid play from Blackshear next year, that would be huge for this team.

4) The UVA crowd in Raleigh was almost abysmal. If VT had been playing in Raleigh (or somewhere close), Hokies would have filled the arena. So, for all the UVA fans that talk about how VT is a "football school" that "refuses to invest in basketball", why not show up when your team is in the NCAA Tournament only hours from Hooville?

5) Here's to making the Tourney next year and taking over an arena in someone else's city!

CBS reporting that TCU may have zeroed in on Pitt's Jamie Dixon, who is a TCU alum.

Dixon has a lucrative and longterm contract with Pittsburgh. But, a source said, TCU is willing to "make the money right" in the sense that Dixon is not being asked to take less to move from the ACC to the Big 12. It's just a matter of whether he wants to stay put for a 14th season at Pittsburgh or get a fresh start at his alma mater, according to a source.

Grew up a town over from Annapolis. It's a fun place. Underrated drinking town, lots of cool stuff to do on the water. Definitely recommend.

The ACC is going to be an absolute blood bath next season

UNC is losing Paige and Johnson, but they'll still be good. Duke is losing Ingram, Plumlee, and possibly Allen but adding enough to be elite. UVA is losing Brogdon and Gill, they'll fall from their elite level. Louisville will be good but who knows how good. Miami is losing McClellan, Jekiri, and Rodriguez. We lose Shane Henry. The ACC will always be tough at the top, but there is a window opening next season. My expectations are based on us returning everyone and all those players improving not just the freshman. I'm not making goals off of the tournaments, I'm just saying that once we get to the postseason those things are very possible.

I doubt Wilson will be in the rotation much next year, and I could see him transferring because of that. But he'd still have to sit out a year, and I think Buzz would like his knowledge, toughness, and leadership on the team. And I feel like Hudson knows that if he plays well he's the best wing on the team, when he's Tyrone he can't be taken off the court. Depth is important and hopefully everyone sees that they can be contributors and that this team can be extremely deep and extremely good.
As for post players, I just hope they develop into serviceable bigs. It takes time but Satch has improved from last year and Johnny has shown promise.

Comparison:

Kerry Blackshear (Fr): 19mpg, 6.2 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 55% from field, 56% ft

Zach Auguste (Soph): 16 mpg, 6.7ppg, 4.3 rpg, 50% from field, 48% ft

Both 6'10"

Dont think positions are current. I dont think Mihota move back to DT

Yea I just read AB's article of the roster updates and he mentions this...

Another probable mistake on the roster: Vinny Mihota's listed a defensive tackle. Foster said last week he'll stay at end and be on the first team along with Ken Ekanem with Seth Dooley out for spring following shoulder surgery.

Relevant again?

I'm not sure one year of success amounts to that. To be relevant you need staying power, and if he left now, I wouldn't feel good about their chances next year. I'm not saying he has to stay as long a Beamer did, but if he wants to make a lasting impression it has to be longer than his current tenure.

I'd like to see him stay long enough for at least one player to have had a full collegiate career with him here. Changing jobs isn't a trivial decision. You shouldn't make the decision lightly, as there are lots of other people depending on you. It is a little bigger than you.

To have a real impact on the team or the ACC, a tenure has to be longer than two years. Has he made the job more attractive? I hope so, but I'd say Whit had more to do with that by proving he's willing to whip out the checkbook.

I guess I'm just really hoping he stays at least a few more years.

Thank you. I figure if it is in discussion for best college town, it must be a cool place. Sounds like what you do there is what I'd do there, so I'm grateful for your recommendation.

Tremaine edmunds is one of the biggest linebackers we have ever had! Vince hall played at like 250 something, but can anyone remember having someone playing backer at 6'5" 237??? God I hope he makes a huge jump this year football wise! Hopefully a lot of tipped balls and snuffed out stretch plays. Bigger LBs is kinda cool, I thought bud and torian were just going downsize; run and recruit 8 defensive backs the past few years hahah ( but seriously)

I agree and want to reiterate, you NEVER know what kind of day someone is having. Also, sometimes the price of "fame" in a small town can be a bit higher than you can keep paying. That said, a smile and a nod costs nothing and at least keeps you out of the "asshole" column.
