10-5 with a young team is not terrible. Pitching wins games...

Their chances of making a run like they did when they hosted a regional? Highly unlikely. They return a lot of pitching but not a lot of the big bats. It is huge to see some hot bats so far with such an ice cold start against Citadel. I would expect to see the hot and cold team that tortured Hokieball fans last season and also the same trend of unacceptable errors costing the Hokies big in some of their games, as shown in one of their games against Campbell this season already. Only time will tell if they can rise above the struggles of last year's team to be relevant in the ACC come tournament time.

Miami trying to attack the rim and they aren't getting the benefit of the whistle tonight. Hugely inconsistent officiating throughout the week. If this game had the FSU game officials, Miami would have already shot 20 free throws tonight.

It's been a little amazing to see the arena transform from session to session. I've been to each of the evening sessions this week. It was Cassell North on Wednesday, LOLUVA had a distinct voice on Thursday and tonight it is a UNC home crowd. Lots of Carolina blue walking the concourses

Edit - now that the second game has started, sound volume of fans is about 75/25 UVA fans to everyone else. Seems like UNC fans are slightly routing for Miami.

Great season ending run by the Hokies this TEAM has come together and while we didn't Beat Miami last night this TEAM has vastly improved and BUZZ has created a winning culture. Remember the outrage a season ago about team member(s) missing weight day because of some snow. I think that issue has been resolved and BUZZ has the GUNS to prove it! IN BUZZ I TRUST. Great days ahead for Hokie BBall.

He will definitely be a contributor. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. With Bucky looking gassed after running numerous go routes and mulling jumping to the pros, Cline MIA last year, and Mallett about to graduate we could have been grooming someone to play a large role this season.

It appears as if we're going to be watching the Jim Laranaga locker room motivation show again tonight.

I have a hard time believing that either Miami or UVA could even come close to beating UNC if tomorrow the Tarheels play like they've played tonight. Damn impressive.

Another random anecdote from inside the arena. Just spent the 1st game stuck next to a LOLUVA football season ticket holder. He doesn't have enough alumni club seniority to purchase basketball tickets and got his ACC tournament book from the Syracuse website.

I can't figure out if I should feel sorry for him (LOLUVA Football season tickets, that's a waste of $$$) or frustrated that my Gokden Hokie ACC booklet is in the same nosebleeds that any gaboon clicking on the Syracuse website could get.

I actually do think the selection process does get highly political.... hear me out:
There are automatic bids...boom, you're in, easy for the committee.
Then there are obvious choices: ex. Duke, Kentucky, etc on good, but not conference championship years.
Then there are the historical reasonable picks: ex. Top 5 ACC, Big East, etc.
Once these selections are made, you have the bubble teams. I think at this point, the process becomes political. Most bubble teams, by definition have plus/minus so there's no win-win. This is the point the committee can get political... we like this conference, this team brings a larger TV market, this coach pissed us off and we'll not reward him.....
The bubble choices are the most highly analyzed and it gives the coaches/pundits nudges on what will help a team get in over the next few cycles: 'X needed a tougher schedule, Y's coach cheated (?Syracuse), etc.

I don't think it's necessarily petty, but the bubble selections are where the committee gets to 'set the tone.'
