58 and a half minutes of complete tortuous boredom and miserable attempts followed by a quick 90 seconds of pure bliss.

Of course the argument could be made that he didn't really turn a profit off of them. I mean if you equate abysmal stats and rankings with the way he manages his finances, then that is/was foolish and his ass be broke.

The Shane Henry thing really gets me. He's been, all things considered, a pretty inconsequential player for us for two years. But, damn, the ceremony with his "14 Brothers" and kissing the VT really shows not only how important VT is for him but how important he is to that team. Maybe he is symbolic, overcoming his weaknesses to contribute, being a part of this team that comes together. He seems like such a nice guy, with his beautiful (and tall!) wife.....just a really nice component of Saturday afternoon.

This team is really, really close. It's hard to remember, but next year, we may see the next composition of a VT basketball team not be as close. Teams don't normally support each other like this. It's pretty unusual, but this "15 Brothers" has made their whole greater than their parts.

Shane Henry kissing that VT just gets me right in the feels.

You mean being as conservative as possible and criminally underusing his valuable assets?

I would think if he ran his finances like he did his offenses, he's essentially retired by now.

Yep... and that's the thing. While a jump from 10 to 13 wins in the ACC doesn't seem like much, with the quality of basketball in this league, to do that you have to be playing pretty consistent good basketball throughout the year while knocking off multiple contenders.

What's exciting for us is that we got to our 10 wins by beating 2 legitimate top dogs in the conference. With more consistency (that should happen next year now that they are all experienced) and hopefully a full slate of healthy players, you can make a very legitimate argument that we could be seeing our first basketball Top 25 ranking in a while happen next year.

I am sure he will have an impact on recruiting, I think people make the mistake of thinking 1. HS Coaches wouldnt jump at any chance to talk with an NFL coach, let alone, one who had success in the immediate area. 2. HS players wouldnt resonate with someone who coached NFL talent. 3. An NFL coach, once jumping to the college scene, immediately loses all capability of relating to people.

I think one things for sure, Illinois will have a football team. and stay away from Bud Foster.

Eh, the interim AD may have just over-committed the program by hiring the interim head coach when he did. So the new, full-time AD made the decision to make a splash hire that will likely take the program further. It looks bad, but it's a good move for UI.

Marcus Dick: worst ever waste of talent in the history of Hokiedom. Ever.

assuming that he wasn't absolutely stupid with managing his money.

You mean assuming he didn't manage his funds the way he "managed" the offense.

That's been my contention for years. 06 would have been our year if Marcus hadn't been such a shitheel.

If only he had about 5 more carries and didn't fumble the punt, the game would have been very interesting in the 4th qtr. Our D just was very tired in the last 7-8 minutes.

Completely classless move by UI. The coach was hosting 5 recruits this weekend while this happened. Also had 4 new coaches uproot and move to coach there.

Players found out on twitter.

Oh gosh I know. Whenever people brag about that game I always say it was the worst 58 minutes of football I ever saw.

2009 Nebraska game was awful. Yes, the ending was amazing, but the first 58 minutes, outside of our first possession, was painful.

Can we talk for a second, Buzz's real name is Brent?

I'd love to say that, but we had 155 total yards in that game. Beamerball kept that game close. But, RMFW did show up in a big way.

Man... Illinois hiring Chicago's former head coach.... Don't underestimate the draw of playing for a Bears head coach in your home state college.

Lovie's name alone is going to funnel a lot of talent in that area to Illinois.
