I'm fine with Larranaga winning COY. He took an ok Miami team and got them to the top of the ACC and top 10 nationally. Buzz took an incredibly young and historically bad team and got them to 6th in the ACC. Both coaches deserve this award in my opinion, but I'd give the edge to Larranaga. Not to discount the incredible job Buzz did this year, but Miami has been the best team in the ACC most of this year until we booted them. The jump from perennial cellar dweller to 6th is fantastic, but to go from middle of the pack to the top in the ACC is more impressive in my mind. The exciting thing to see, where can this VT team go next year?

just another great reason for everyone to stay motivated

If he's not NFL ready by age 23 - going on 24 - an extra yr isn't going to make much difference and he likely is headed elsewhere with a 3 yr old kid living a long way from Blacksburg.

I think the missing variable in this statement is Fuente. If Fuente were to make Evans into another draft-caliber quarterback, Lawson's stock would likely be higher after starting for VT.

The kid being in the equation certainly makes me want to say, "dude, go be with your kid. He won't be three again."

Acosta and DeLeon were on top of their game last night and Neagle was quite dangerous. However, this league is geared toward LA Galaxy's success and their roster shows it. They'll be tough to beat. I shouldn't care about last night's match as much as I do but Galaxy are the Duke of MLS and last night showed it.

But I agree. I normally wouldn't have stayed up past halftime but they were so fun to watch in the first half. Unfortunately we had nothing in the second.

Scoreline was certainly ugly, but I didn't feel it was indicative of the way United played.

While there's a prevailing thought in MLS circles that DC United is going to be bad this year, I disagree. The new pieces will take a little while to gel and at the very least, they're going to be a lot more fun to watch this year. Probably not as defensively sound as before, but Acosta is the real deal and DeLeon was all over the field. I think he'll find his shot, and the supporting cast has much more technical ability than the teams over the past couple years.

And Miami was picked 8th and finished T-2.

If VT is picked 8th next yr (a realistic possibility) and finishes T-2, everybody - and I mean EVERYBODY here - would be bat shit crazy if someone else other than Buzz won COY.

Well last night was less than ideal for DC United. Thought the match was poorly officiated but DC did itself no favors.

Where was Miami picked 5th? Every poll I saw had them 7th or 8th.

I don't really care who wins the job.

IMO, Lawson redshirting is a moot point. He's not going to be at VT for 5 years. He'd be 24 yr old senior and a 25 yr old in rookie camp.

If he is an NFL talent, he's one case where (at his age) staying the extra year might actually be detrimental. If he's not NFL ready by age 23 - going on 24 - an extra yr isn't going to make much difference and he likely is headed elsewhere with a 3 yr old kid living a long way from Blacksburg.

At first I was like, "Oh they evaluated VT."
Then I was like, "Wait, which team are they talking about."
Finally I was like, "Oh, they're talking about every team in the country."

Lots of hope and optimism right now, lots of questions too. We are all tied for #1 and #128 (or however many teams they are up to now), so lets get after it!
