She won them in a lottery draw and I'm not sure if it's the same one that is being talked about here or not.

I think GRRM has enough framework laid out that his story is still being told by HBO and it is not from whole cloth.
Those that are worried by a drop off in story, I don't think we need worry.

Hey, i'd be happy to have a postseason outside of the ACC tourney in any capacity.

And if were playing Memphis in the first round of the CBI a monthish from now, I'll take your predictions on the winning powerball #'s.

Every game we lost that year put a terrible taste in my mouth. Loss to Duke when they had 180 yards and never converted a third down... Boston College... Maryland... we blew a 10-11 win season quite impressively.

Given that it looks like they're doubling back to cover things they missed, I don't know that we'll get massively ahead of the book. I'm still OK if we do, just because I'm mostly just tired of waiting for the book and I want to get on with the story. There are enough things that are different about the two that I still enjoy them both. Even though they'll end up in the same place, reading the books will always be enjoyable for me, to see into the characters better/differently than can be done on TV. So that's just a whole different element for me.

To those indicating that this is simply a scare tactic, you're partially correct. It's likely an effort to demonstrate just how serious budget shortfalls can be in a state and a precursor to significant cuts in state-run services if an agreement isn't met. I agree that there's no chance LSU football gets cancelled, but it IS a fairly common tactic to paint the worst type of picture during a budget crisis in order to make whatever DOES happen seem less significant.

To my knowledge, no one has ever threatened the ability for state universities to remain in operation in Virginia, but I do remember the budget shortfalls that happened as a result of the Dot Com bubble burst in the early 2000's when I was in school. Governor (now Senator) Warner made cuts everywhere, but made sure to shut down places where budget cuts would be immediately noticed: e.g. DMVs. The experience went from bad to nightmarish, and this was used as leverage to reach a compromise of higher taxes and lower costs.

tl;dr; - When need to slash budgets and want to raise revenue, you make sure to announce cuts in things that people get riled up about.

It always reminds me of the chicken from USCe. The only thing I like about the "fighting gobbler" logo is that you can use it to explain the difference between a Gobbler and a Hokie.

I watched the first two seasons before starting the book and I am all caught up on both fronts. I thoroughly enjoyed the TV show prior to reading the books. Knowing what happened made the first book harder to read, but by the second book the storyline differed enough from the show that the books were enjoyable too. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the show quite as much once I knew what was coming...which is why I think I liked this recent season so much, the differences were awesome. Basically, I'm looking forward to watching the show when I don't know what to expect.

One of Shane's last interviews in December he said that Shai seemed to be back to old form. Marshawn likely won'y play next year, he's got time to shed the weight

How do you feel, as a fellow book reader, about potential book spoilers this season? I was hoping against all hope that TWOW would be out before April, but alas. Im still planning to watch the show, but GRRM only has himself to blame for not being able to have it revealed in his own way.

I believe they have said Shai will be a go in the spring. Maybe not for contact but for other work. I expect him to be back and 100% for fall. Marshawn I don't think will be ready

I don't see us getting anywhere close to an ending until Dany at least crosses the sea. And after her crap went down last season, I think we're further from that happening.

I like this theory though. Checks out.

Aside from the NIT or CBI, there is a new tournament played in Vegas this year. Its called the Vegas 16 and is played from 3/26 - 3/30. I'm not sure what types of teams will be selected, but if we're not in the NIT, I'm hoping we go to this. Vegas in late March is fantastic!! I'm always looking for a good excuse to go.
