Greetings from a neighbor! My 2 kids were products of the Cville school system (last one graduated two yr ago), so quite familiar with it. Glad they have a Hokie on staff. Perhaps you can help them improve the football program. It's been a tough uphill slog the past few years. And I agree on the number of anti-hoos in the area. It manifests itself in many ways here. One of my favorites is comparing retail. If you go shopping in the Blacksburg area, you see all kinds of Hokie gear. Rarely anything blue and orange. If you go shopping around here, you see a fair amount of O&M. Kinda gives me a nice warm feeling. Again, welcome to TKP!
But you could already be charged under existing laws for those eventualities. The seat belt law takes it a step further, and makes it an offense even if literally none of those things happen. In fact, let's look at the statute and break some things down:
C. Any person who violates this section shall be subject to a civil penalty of twenty-five dollars to be paid into the state treasury and credited to the Literary Fund. No assignment of demerit points shall be made under Article 19 of Chapter 3 ( 46.2-489 et seq.) of this title and no court costs shall be assessed for violations of this section.
D. A violation of this section shall not constitute negligence, be considered in mitigation of damages of whatever nature, be admissible in evidence or be the subject of comment by counsel in any action for the recovery of damages arising out of the operation, ownership, or maintenance of a motor vehicle, nor shall anything in this section change any existing law, rule, or procedure pertaining to any such civil action.
E. A violation of this section may be charged on the uniform traffic summons form.
F. No citation for a violation of this section shall be issued unless the officer issuing such citation has cause to stop or arrest the driver of such motor vehicle for the violation of some other provision of this Code or local ordinance relating to the operation, ownership, or maintenance of a motor vehicle or any criminal statute.
So it's not even a misdemeanor, merely a a way to collect revenue, it cannot be enforced unless you were stopped for something else, and cannot even be considered a factor in trials for larger offenses.
TLDR: the state of Virginia doesn't care about you flying through the air, they just want an excuse to fine you.
Well....here in Central NJ, we refer to the state to the west as Pennsyltucky

We're in agreement here.
Not sure how my comment was any different than Joes or VTGuitarMan, but ok.
I hate those comments too. Downvote them to UVA's football ranking. But you mentioned nothing positive about people generating discussion on her qualifications or excitement over her hire and fit at VT (both of which are actively occurring above).
I'm going to address something that may not be popular. A lot of people will not like that we have hired a woman to such a high position at a P5 school. Those people are bigots. Forget them. Who we hired was a qualified candidate who has great references, fits with the culture of Virginia Tech, and already knows some of the staff.
Don't tolerate any of this shit from Hokies and respectfully tell those outside of the program to shut the hell up.
at least you've always got this to fall back on:

Found a study from UM identifying average deceleration rates of various vehicles at 60 MPH without using ABS. Comes out to be about .8g. If at any given moment while operating a vehicle we could be assured that a person had sufficient grip on the steering wheel to support 4/5s of their body weight, and that the windshield was reinforced enough that in the event of a collision the person would be contained inside their vehicle, and we knew that the cost of any additional injuries that come about from not wearing a seatbelt wouldn't be pushed back onto the general population, then yes I would be prepared to admit that seatbelt laws are frivolous.
Are you talking South Jersey? Yeah.. those Philly fans are weird as hell.

We'll find out tomorrow. New polls come out on Tuesdays.
Well it holds true for the part of PA I'm from, and the next city over (which is in NJ).
I am ashamed of the sexist comments in this thread, I didn't paint the community with a brush.
This is a good overview. She's worked at big schools that are all doing pretty damn well. Throw in that she knows Fuente from their TCU days and it's a great fit.
There was also a lot of praise for her being a qualified hire that fit the culture. You can't stop people from posting dumb stuff. You have a little button that sends a message that you enjoy and approve of someone's content and idea and one that says cut that shit out we won't stand for that. Use them and don't paint the community with one brush.
Driving without a seatbelt increases your chance of becoming a projectile and injuring pedestrians
Dumb
I do not experience that. I grip the steering wheel.
Doesn't happen to my on my motorcycle either, so sometimes the passenger slides into me.
I use my hands and arms to steady me in my seat by gripping and using the handlebars or steering wheel, depending on which vehicle I m in.
That's not true. Guardrail, for example, is designed to deflect a driver. The lateral g force could easily throw you out of your seat and then be redirected into traffic, where if wearing your seatbelt, you could likely control the vehicle, at least to some degree.
You are correct, although the polls haven't been updated yet.
You know how on that rare occaision you may have to stop suddenly and your body "falls" forward against the seat belt?
Yeah, that's modern tires in modern cars stopping your vehicle easily in a situation where the seat belt is the only thing keeping your teeth from being knocked out by your steering wheel, or worse.
So far we have:
1) Comments on her looks
2) References to her being an admin assistant
3) Accusations of her being Fuente's mistress
Should we discuss her cooking skills next?
The offensive linemen need to go make their snow angels! Also they're prolly concerned about when the ice will start.
Hey look, an good interview with an exciting new hire who appears to be extremely well suited for the job, with an extensive resume. This person seems to have a great attitude, and the potential to bring a fresh new approach to the program we all love. How awesome!
I wonder what I should comment about in response to this that would be respectful and appropriate? I know, her appearance! And to make sure, I'll put something in there saying how respectful I intend to be about noting that her looks are the only thing worth talking about! What a great idea!
Oh and by the way, /s
It's a shame that people went there after Alex wrote such a nice article about an obviously successful and qualified person.

With your twitter game I'm surprised your somehow not involved with recruiting already.
