Yes the system is based off of confusing offenses and predicting where the ball goes based off of pressure. We play a ton of inverted cover 2 which we tend to mask as Cover 2 before the presnap of the ball.

We blitz a bunch and it forces bad throws.

People tend to forget that we were still a CB factory before he TG was a coach.

you mention 2 players we got way back in the day when recruiting was not as crazy as it is now... these types of players are the Nnadi, Sweat, Hand, Wayne Davis and Laborn type players that are 4* and 5* kids now.

The days of finding gems are long gone for the most part so the idea that 2* kids will turn into a kam or brandon flowers is again the way you wind up 7-6 and in Shreveport.

it's nice we landed a lb who seems to fit this scheme but we all know a freshman lb actually learning the scheme is slim to none. Nothing's going to change this second but do we need to go after more 4* 5* kids yes, do I think we can land these 4* 5* kids we absolutely can.

Choo Choo all aboard the Loren Johnson hype train. I'm hearing rumors that Sam Rogers seeks Lorens advise on ways in which to be most like Chuck Norris.

Don't know the answers to all your questions, but today Burden said Fuente is a very involved coach in terms of S&C and off season conditioning. He said the training is pretty intense and the head whistle is leading the running as a team. It's a "don't bring kids" type of environment. Gotta love coaches when they're young and hungry.

There really is a very thin line between perfectly normal social behavior, and white knuckle, wide eyed brutality.

The veneer of civility in most societies is about 4 or 5 square meals from an RSVP to the next Donner party.

I just hope we give these two a fitting punishment that will act as a deterrent to the next potential psycho.

Believe it or not, even though most people committing crimes like this are sociopaths, most sociopaths do not commit crimes.

A huge part of that is the result of social mores that make actions like this fall on the wrong side of their cost/benefit analysis.

Just a very sick situation all around. The only way this makes sense to me is if the girl really liked the guy and that's how he got her involved. Just a terrible to thing to happen.

The only way that this makes sense in my head is if this is for family reasons since he's from Florida or is getting big raise which he insinuated he wasn't. Unless of course there was some friction from the pay cut and/or the new staff. At best this is a lateral move career wise since its only announced as a DB coach and not an assistant D coordinator or something else. Wish him the best though, just hope they find the right kind of fit to make this work as he is a good one.

You make two assumptions. The first is that Motley was a poorly developed QB which did not seem to be the case in the following games he started. The second is that McMillian was just as good at the end of the season as he was at the beginning which is unlikely. This was his first season on the field at the collegiate level at a position he did not play in high school.

2/3rds of those kids didn't even consider us. Two factors I can think of:

1. Beamers age had really hamstrung us. The perception was that we would be going thru massive change in the next five years. The perception was right.

2. It's been since 2011 since we were nationally relevant. Or, since these kids were in Middle school. It doesn't take long to pass from the memories of a teenager.

What about starting Travon a little earlier in the season? That might have helped Brewer a little bit. He might have been short on athletic ability but he made up for it with toughness and leadership. He had OSU down in the first half. Second half Augie wiffs and Brewer is done. Poorly developed depth at QB and BS RB rotation doomed us.

They just recruited better offensively period. We didn't sign a single WR last year, they signed 4. We got into this problem in part because of misses on the recruiting trail

Foster's defense has been sorely lacking for the past several years. Take off the rose tinted glasses. I am super happy that Fuente inserted one of his own on the D side. I have no problem with a non Hokie being the new DB coach as long as he has P5/NFL coaching experience and can recruit.

That UNC team was/is FULL of kids that VT wanted. Our recruiting rankings are similar, but they got more kids we wanted than vice versa. We did a good job of getting our 2nd choice kids.

There is also a big school bias to rankings that even benefits VT. 4 years ago, a VT offer was more valuable than a UNC offer. It's subtle, but our own past success has muddied the waters of our rankings.

French is right, they are recruiting to their system better. But it's also true that they have more kids we wanted and that, comparatively, VTs kids are overrated.
