But winning is very strong. And good recruiting coaches. And tradition. And girls or academics (but only both at Texas).
Recruiting is an onion. Sure, more money would obviously be better, but I really doubt it is more important than winning. Maybe if you have more money, you hire better assistant coaches who can recruit....but we just hired a new staff and we didn't seek great recruiting assistants.
We are adding staff. We seemingly bring in everyone kid we want who wants to come on official visits. We seem to be performing a sufficient amount of in-home and in-school visits. We have great food. I'm not seeing where money is that big of a deal to VT right now.
We need to win. We need a coaching staff that is better built for recruiting....or we should just take our 25-35 best class in the country and be really good at player development.
Why would we ever talk sense in a thread about 'crootin????
I don't know how big of a turnout it would be, but since it doesn't look like a monthly event, it shouldn't cost that much to cover the refreshment and drinks. It does feel a little strange that it's going to be a cash bar.
But didn't he know his mother wanted him to go to Iowa State when he was pictured in VT gear an hour before the announcement?
I actually believe he wanted to go to VT even as late as yesterday. I don't think he had decided as of last night. In the end, he acquiesced to mom and bro. Blood runs strong and you gotta respect that.
He didn't look all that happy in the photos I saw of him this morning. I don't think ISU was HIS first choice......
Yep. And, in some ways, it's a beautiful thing: it came down to family. "Love you CJF, but it's my Mother. It's my twin brother." If we knew that was his platform, then we wasted time and money.
The only thing I disagree with you on is your definition of "trolling". I think trolling IS intentionally malicious. Which is why I don't call this trolling...
I still think they desperately needed more depth at the backer spot. I really think that Lydon is going to be a special player at that spot, and I am hopeful that Motu can translate the good qualities I saw in his HS film into being more physical at the point of attack, being more instinctive, and having a heavy shoulder.
Right now the backer spot is Edmunds (a guy who looked comfortable in the Bear, and incredibly uncomfortable in the base alignment against Tulsa) and a guy in Moss who I don't recall was highly recruited and has not been able to get on the field. To me, that was a worrisome spot. I like Belmar, but with attrition and injury, they needed 3 Belmars and didn't get them.
I'm willing to bet we have more money flowing into the Athletic Department now than we did before Frank the reins. He won games and made this program much more powerful than it was. To get to the next level we need to win a Championship or two. So winning games helped to get this program to where it is. We never would have been able to haul in a guy like Fuente if it wasn't for Frank winning a bunch of games starting in the 90s. Winning is important.
And, by the way,
these days who doesn't have a sexy offense?
BC
While I agree, don't think they can do that for the public school employees.

Virginia Tech until hopefully this season
It not spending money per se on anything in particular. Look at the dozen schools with highest avg star ratings since the ratings began. Then look at the largest athletic program budgets. The correlation between the two is very strong.
Financial resources are a reflection of the breadth and depth of the support of the local and regional media, fan base, alumni, and businesses for the program...which in turn drives local , regional, and national perception of a program...which in turn drives recruiting.
Well during the spring, summer and fall. But I can hit balls from the heated shed during the winter. Yes, I have eaten at Manhattan Deli. It is pretty good. Have you have had Big Tomato pizza? It's right down the street and is awesome. My in-laws live just south of DMU. I know a bunch of people that went there for med school. It's a good school.
Ladler- flips his hips. Remember that phrase, because I will be using it a bunch when he gets on the field. He shows inside leverage and then can flip his hips and jump a slant route for an interceptions. He has a lot of Jayron Hosley in him at first glance, and is already physically better developed at the same age.
Gray has also heavily developed that pipeline. Hosley was a Gray recruit, I'm almost sure of. Dadi and Maddy both turned into very good players but they (esp. Maddy) were largely last-minute pickups for other guys that we missed on.
Again, please direct me to any 4-star DE we have signed in the last 5-7 years. They just don't exist. The highly-rated guys in-state pass us over like we don't exist. In a landscape where most SEC teams are going 7-8 deep on the DL; we simply can't compete if we can't recruit impact DE.
Perfect example. I had forgotten.

Umm every week?

My wife is from Sioux City and went to UNI and Des Moines Medical school. I love visiting Iowa in the summer and spring, winter SUCKS!
Side not have you eaten at Manhatten Deli yet, if not you need to.
French, with the additions of Belmar and Eron Carter, what is your overall take on our Linebackers? Moto struggled at times and Deon Clarke gave up on plays. Do you think Moto polishes his game? Is Tremaine ready for the backer role? In all the player that we have as LBs (Minor, Moss, etc), do you see anyone stepping up their game?
thanks for this great post-lunch laugh!
i think the only thing rising after this post will be the Hokies' laughter at the Hoos' expense. GO HOKIES!!!
I made the mistake of reading his tweets.
I now have stage 4 cancer
Does that mean Belmar is making a move from LB to End?
sure, if we have a QB who can reliably get the ball to him downfield. I think that was part of the problem with our offense last season. Brewer was good throwing the ball short-medium but he struggled with the deep ball. Motley had a cannon of an arm but his deep ball accuracy left plenty to be desired. Until we have a QB who can reliably throw the ball deep down field with accuracy we're not going to get a lot out of our deep threat receivers unless there is a complete bust in coverage
I forgot his brother was in this class. Did we ever offer him a scholarship?
Regardless, best of luck to him.

He definitely could be 290, I'm just surprised as he looks small. That means he's hiding weight in large legs and a dense midsection. Just an eyeball and my reaction was "damn, that kid looks 260 at best."
