Yeah, people shouldn't pick on recruits because they're just starting to figure things out about a bunch of colleges. Hell, our beloved Tyrod called us "the University of Virginia Tech." Now, when ESPN or some major media entity does it, when in our branding guidelines it explicitly says "never refer to the University as Va Tech, Virginia Tech University..." then I get upset.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more TE offers. Even if Hodges returns, it will only be a year. We've got Cline, Burke and Cunningham. Maybe Durkin.

I'm expecting Rogers plays an HBack position next year to alleviate some of the sting of losing Hodges (I think he's gone).

All I see in this is that in that same timeline we went from winning consistently to a very average to low average football teams.

I really don't put stock in special uniforms when a team has been consistently .500 and has a losing record to play teams on their level or higher. I don't care if the guys come out in pink tutus and a unicorn horn on their helmets win the game we are supposed to win!

Point of clarification - they do not have an accredited engineering program or offer any form of engineering degree. JMU has some sort of applied sciences degree that's "just like engineering."

They look like a good team to me. Maybe just out of the top 10. Very good QB/WR/RB combo. Great recruiting on the lines the last few years.

UT always backloads their schedule, so it wasn't difficult to predict they would go from 4-4 in October to 8-4 at the end of the season. But now if you look back at their season, they lost in OT to OU, by 1 point to UF (when they had their better QB), by 4 points to an Arkansas team that turned it around and by 5 points in Tuscaloosa. That's a strong 4 loses.

Next year's schedule is favorable. If they can get by us, they have UF in Knoxville, road trips to Athens and College Station (rebuild years for both teams), Bama at home, then USC/UK/Mizzou/Vandy. That's a 10+ win team. If we beat them, that will be quite a feather in our cap because they may only lose once more the rest of the year.

I think they need to focus on a solid tight end. Even though Hodges got a "return to school" evaluation from the NFL, I saw where he is still the #1 tight end prospect if he chooses to forego school for the draft. I really hope he stays and plays a season under Fuente's system.

Confession time: I went to JMU for undergrad

*waits for gasps to die down*

As you can see, however, I don't really bother with being a fan of their sports teams. So mostly whenever I'd hear people slam Tech, I'd either stay quiet and get shifty-eyed or offer up a "hey now, Tech ain't so bad" or something along those lines. There were definitely some people who took it a little further than others.

I wouldn't consider (All Maroon) and (All Orange) "specialty" uniforms. Those uniforms were no different (in style and design) than our other uniforms. It's just that we make a big deal out of All Maroon (being good) and All Orange (being bad).

"Specialty" uniforms would be any uniform:
- the primary color not Maroon, Orange or White
and/or
- change in uniform design (i.e. orange camouflage or Pro Combat)
and/or
- any type of "throwback" jersey (don't believe we've done this with the jersey, only the helmets. The Donald Duck Oregon jersey is an example that comes to mind.)

VIRGINIA polyTECHnic institute and state UNIVERSITY

Virginia Tech University may not sound normal to you but it's not as egregious as VAH TECH. I wouldn't criticize recruits for using Virginia Tech University. It's all technically there...

Agreed, Ford isn't fast enough to be a 1st/2nd round NFL pick.

And we have probably seen Ford's most prolific season. Next year will feature a lot more WR's getting reps than the cluster that was this year's WR rotation. We are so fortunate that neither Ford nor Phillips got hurt, we had really painted ourselves into a corner.

A lot. You have to assume at this point that those 10 or 12 guys who sat the bench last year may never contribute. There was plenty of playing time available last year and none of them stepped up. Maybe one or two of those guys can figure into the rotation. Maybe.

With a new coach who likes to shuffle in and out skill position players, you need to assume that we will play Ford, Phillips + 4-5 new faces. If we need to have at least 4 who can play, you probably need 6+ to choose from. We have Deablo, Kumah, Denmark, Patterson, and maybe Quillen so far. Probably will add two more.
