I have a friend that went to JMU after Tech and he said JMU absolutely hates VT. He got way more hate at JMU in a couple months than I've heard in 2 years of graduate school at UVA.

From my high school experience JMU was always the place everyone went when they didn't get accepted to VT/UVA.

I read a post somewhere (so it must be true...) that JMU students/fans absolutely detest everything VT. I've not ever heard, seen anything like that - but I haven't lived in VA since forever and a day so I don't know. Is there any truth to that comment?

I just hope the game this year has the same result. I watched that game with a Hokie friend of mine and her Vol husband. We made a bet that we had to do a shot whenever the opposing team scored (i.e. He'd do a shot when VT scored, his wife and I would do a shot when Tenn scored). Poor guy.

My wife and I will be at the game in Bristol. For anyone looking for a place to stay, there are some nice places on Airbnb in Asheville, NC. Not too far from Bristol, and a lot nicer. Plus there are a bunch of breweries there, Sierra Nevada is open now and New Belgium will be open soon. Just thought I'd share a tip for anyone despairing of a place to stay that isn't a craphole or outrageously expensive (or both).

I have to agree. My wife and I went to the NCST game this year and it's a lot easier to just take one day off work and drive down Thursday night after work (we live in NOVA). I think I'd have liked it better as a student too since you don't have to worry about getting up for class the next day.

Not bad for the guy I beat in the regular season then Clemsoned for in the playoffs!

Congrats, Helo!

edit: I suppose I actually Boston Colleged-beat in the regular season, lost the game that actually mattered.

Not going to happen imo. Their fans have soooo much contempt for this notion that I don't think it's feasible, especially the way this went down.

Also they have a high powered offense and I suspect they will look for someone to keep it that way. Just my .02

The problem is that he is neither - not either/or - right now.

This has been in the works for a while now. It was "mutual" but I have a feeling Jancek wasn't crazy about leaving. He had a decent defense this year, but one of the worst in CFB last year. Most fans would have been fine keeping him, if nothing else just because next year is the moving year. Shoop is And has always been the hot name, but I don't think we'll pay for him. He gets $1m at PSU, Jancek made $610k after the bowl bonus. If Butch and tha AD stick to the status quo, it will be an up and comer that runs a 4-3 (like we do now) that isn't fully established as a big name yet. I don't expect a big change in style. We've got the players to have one of the best defenses in the country next year. If they go too far outside the box they are putting their necks on the line.

interesting--private school football in the 757 is OK but nothing like the powerhouse public school programs in the peninsula and southside of Tidewater. will be following Bishop Sullivan's progress with Coach Scott to see how this works out. if successful, i can see something in the mold of California's Mater Dei

Thursday night is dead for college football now. Go to a sports bar on a Thursday and see how much love the ESPN college game gets.

Friday is the new Thursday. Plus it's generally more convenient for non-locals (and VT has A LOT of non-local alums) to attend a Friday night game than Thursday. This move makes little sense to me.
