My high school guidance counselor tried to convince me that JMU was superior to VT for science programs. JMU had at that point just built a nice new building for chemistry and biology and that caught her attention. But until JMU offers more graduate degrees in basic sciences, they will never come close to VT in terms of research infrastructure. The only grad degree they offer is an M.S. in Biology. Until they start offering Ph.D. programs in biology, chemistry, and biochemistry, there is an upper limit to their research infrastructure and sustainability that will be well below VT for a long time. JMU does have some nice buildings and facilities, to be sure, but I don't get the sense that there is any more value in a JMU biology degree than one from VT.
I know the JMU co-eds really like us Hokie boys back in the late '90s and early 00's...
Whoa whoa whoa, now that's starting to sound like a wahoo.
JMU has a lot of programs that are really good (and some better than VT).
Really great arts, music, and music education programs.
Their engineering program is on the rise as well.
Also good in the biology arena.
Alabama is an ACC-esque school, I think.
Is Danny Coale available?
BRING THESE BACK ASAP
Whit also talked about modernizing the Hokie Club, which I can only hope means pushing t eliminate the Banner system and implementing software that institutions should be using this millennium. That should solve a lot of the issues related to credit cards and recurrent payments, among other small annoyances.
Well, it worked before.
Awesome. I was bummed when the pack elected to not bring him back and I still have no idea how he didn't make Carolina's roster. I hope he tears it up being back with tyrod
Wait...what?! Does he have big hands?

Oh! Believe me! I want them to lose and lose badly as well. As much respect as I have for Saban and what he's done at Alabama I absolutely cannot stand their fans. They are seriously obnoxious!
I said it before and I'll say it again...
If the scouts say stay in school you stay in school. They evaluate talent for a living and have gotten exceedingly efficient at it over the years. What they evaluate is where you'll be drafted.

+1 for making me laugh.
Laborn's tape is pretty ridiculous. I know it's against high school level competition, but he makes a lot of insane catches and has really good balance/speed for a high school junior.
Big props to JB!
Probably the first article I've seen about Boykin that didn't mention his size XXXL gloves...
Long way away, but I hope he has a strong off-season and makes the final roster. It'd be dope to see him and Tyrod tear it up again
Saw Laborn play against Oscar Smith this year. He was by far the best player on the field.
i'm no insider, but when i spoke with the club rep about how to get back in and reinstate my missed consecutive years, we discussed some changes (combination of my wants and ideas they were bouncing around). the one thing that seemed pretty clear was that Whit wanted to make sure there was more incentive for people to join and/or increase their giving level beyond football tickets and parking. those are great carrots, but they don't really help people who aren't attending games. I think we'll see some big changes to perks that aren't necessarily tied to being in Blacksburg to enjoy them. what those perks may be? i have no clue...
Any hints about new things coming to Hokie Club?
2015 grad here...and yeah, its true. I have plenty of friends who went/go to JMU you, and its not all bad, but they literally take swipes at Tech and openly root for tech sports to lose more than UVa kids do. I'm just taking a guess, but its probably a mix of school attachment (kids at JMU love JMU almost as much as people at Tech love Tech) and the fact JMU gets overshadowed in the state by tech, UVa, and vcu now because of basketball.
As a Hokie with an aging Maroon and Orange wardrobe, I may need to budget for the new merch. Are we thinking Spring Game reveal? Summer? Things could get out of control if I really like it (which I assume I will).
PS: Whit is like a Hokie Whisperer of some sort
My experience in shreveport:
- They give out free beer?
- Woo! Free beer!
- Look how close these seats are for how little we paid! What a bargain!
- WOOOOOOOO!!!! ENTER SANDMAAAAAN
- Okay, enter sandman has been going on for a long time, I can't keep this jumping going for the entire song.
- Oh god... Orange pants.
- They just scored in 15 seconds... curse you orange pants
- We just scored in 15 seconds... We'll talk about this later orange pants
- We lead by three touchdowns. I guess the orange pants aren't a huge problem
- THE ORANGE PANTS ARE A HUGE PROBLEM, LOOK AT ALL THESE POINTS THEY'VE SCORED, THIS GAME IS TOO CLOSE
- Oh thank god, we won in spite of the orange pants.
Granted, many of these thoughts were influenced by the first two thoughts.

you forgot this part
