Right. Maybe he is a better fit as a position coach and not a coordinator. Kind of like that guy on our previous staff named Steinspring. He was not a good OC, but did well as the TE coach.
There seemed to be some trend for this during Beamer's tenure and I'm not in a position to know why. But let's change the list to have headers: Backup QB Prepared and Backup QB Unprepared
I'd put TCU under Prepared, and Oregon under Unprepared. Is there some sort of lesson there? You can debate the why's and why not's.
Like I said, pure conjecture on my part, but why bring anyone from the Memphis Defensive staff. He, Scott, didn't impress as DC this past season and he stayed when the previous Memphis DC was hired to be the DC at Missouri. Not exactly getting a great feeling for this particular coach. Then there are the personal connections that he has with Fuente. Probably wild speculation, due to football season being over, but it sure seems convenient. ;-) Take it for what you will. *sigh* these strict unsportsmanlike conduct rules are really putting a damper on the celebration dances.
Bud and Fuente have yet to coach a game together, and Scott was underwhelming to say the least as a DC at Memohis. I'd say it's quite a bit too early to say he's being groomed to take over for Bud.

It's not like he pulled a Mark Dantonio either. The media shouldn't complain about Buzz publicly, its not like their readers want to read about them being pissy about having to wait or sit in different seats. The readers want to know about the in game developments and observations, not about the complaints of reporters.

That said, the athletic department staff doesnt escape some blame here either. To not have quickly nipped this issue in the bud by keeping these media members informed of what was going on while they waited considering it was quickly apparent Buzz not appearing was becoming a PR debacle. There didnt appear to be any mediation attempted by our in house folks. I could be wrong but that seems to be another piece that led us to the point of childish name calling.
I used to read Andy religiously, after his tantrum about TKP giving thorough coverage, and now this, kinda losing respect for the guy. He's coming off as a very whiny individual on twitter about all of this. Feeling like he needs to reply to every person, and prove he's in the right....

I agree 100% with Buzz. you show up and do the job you're paid to do. That's the blue collar, lunch pail Hokie way we do things. Buzz coaching young players is his #1 job. The sense of entitlement from journalists that have the pleasure of watching sports and regurgitating it online is incredibly infuriating. You have one job to do. sit down, shut the fuck up and wait until you're provided the opportunity to do it, because there are a million other sports writers that would happily take your place.
Berman, Barber, Bitter all need to learn their place. You're the little fish that swims with sharks waiting for the leftovers the shark doesn't eat. You're lucky enough not to get eaten while enjoying the show, and you're definitely not the main attraction. So if you have to wait all night to get fed, then fucking wait.
1) the starter gets the best/most practice time. If you take away more practice time in case of the starter going down, you risk your starter not reaching their potential.
2) the starter is the starter for a reason- he's better than the backup.
I'm honestly not sure why so many football fans are surprised when a backup isn't as good as a starter at the hardest position to play (QB). It's implied even in the depth chart that when the starter goes down, his replacement won't be as good. Sure, there are outliers (Ohio State being one, but to be honest there was so much talent on that team it was hard to notice if there even could be a drop off), but in general terms if a starter goes down, his replacement will be worse.
Uhh Ohio State won a national championship with their backup. I won't call him third string since the "first string" guy was out before the season. Other than that abnormality, I think the prep time goes 80% to the starter and the defense's are too complicated to pick up with such little rep time.
I don't think it was the S&C guys holding Miami back considering how many of their players seem to turn a corner in the NFL. It's got to be scheme and technique which is also fairly easy to see in their W-L record. I would argue that their raw talent has been the biggest reason for the few wins they have.

I'm sure limited practice time has a lot to do with backups seeming to not be prepared as noted above. I think also the fact that they're probably not as good talent-wise as as the starter was also plays into them not looking as good because if they were better they likely would be the starter from the get go. Also, in our case, Brewer and Motley are pretty different stylistically so play calling and scheming are going to change from what the team was used to. So, I guess there's a lot of things that factor in.
Man, Oregon is such a terrible QB school. Their OC clearly has no clue what he's doing. Why can't he recruit and prepare a quality backup???
This is sarcasm, but shockingly similar to things I've read on VT boards the last few years.
What an Alamo bowl game! It's amazing to see a backup quarterback come in, and play his guts out in the final game of his college career. He literally left his right elbow and maybe a couple of ribs on the field.
Quarterback is the most difficult position in the sports world to play at a high level. Not many can consistently play to such a high level.
I think it mostly has to do with the limited practice time that college teams get. With most of the reps going to the #1, the backup just doesn't get the practice they need to execute the full playbook.
We had friends over and I got the new Guitar Hero for Christmas so that's what we did.

There seems to be a sect of the profession that is very entitled to their quotes. That's my third party observation.
