Scott will probably be primarily in Florida and Georgia. SS and Shane were good recruiters, and SS leaving is already hurting us with some high profile recruits that it looked like we had wrapped up. But shibest actually is rumored to be a good recruiter, and Marshall Long's comments on Shibest recruiting him lends some credence to that rumor

I think the expectation (whether realistic is not) is that the starter is a spectacular player, but the backup is sufficient. The offense should be able to move the ball with the back up.
The way linebackers are utilized is so unique in Foster's gap system. Scott coached a very different defensive system at Memphis, so I don't think that Scott will come in and start teaching the linebacker position in a different way than Foster demands. Scott is there is to be Fuente's conduit to the defense. His effectiveness as a position coach will depend on his willingness to buy in on Foster's system and then effectively teach the position as Foster needs it played for the defense to work properly.
I don't know that Brown was even coaching the whips at the end of his tenure. A bunch of the snap chats showed him observing and coaching up defensive ends in drills. Other than Minor, the Hokies aren't bringing back a true whip. Shegog is more of a hybrid whip-nickel, and Stroman/Reynolds are both exclusively coached by Gray. I wouldn't be shocked that Gray had all those guys last season. That is pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was true. I would assume that Scott will be the "linebacker" coach and work with the inside backers and be named an "associate head coach."

But when we're going out looking for more work for one of the assistants to do, that tells me our staff can become more efficient. If Bud is good with turning over LB duties to an assistant, that's all we can ask for. The Mike is always the lynchpin of the defense, so I'm sure Bud will still do Bud things with that group.

This recruiting piece is what I am really excited about. Especially given that it was the major concern that we all had with Fuente coming in. I really think we are going to take a major step forward. There has been a major shift towards coaches who relate to players we are recruiting much more strongly. Shibest for Stinespring is probably the only place that might be a slight step backwards in terms of recruiting ties. Other than that I really think the new guys are going to clean up in the 757
I am not sold on Vice yet, but I am not overly upset about this. Poor recruiter when the players weren't gift-wrapped for him like at Georgia and Texas.He didn't move the needle with any top recruits except for Austin Clark. Every single player who contributed on offensive line was recruited by Newsome, Grimes (Gallo) or was a defensive player converted. His refusal to put Teller in the lineup in 2014 and herky jerking him around in 2015 never sat well with me. Conte playing over Osterloh late in the season was a suspect decision. He never succeeded in making the offensive line a more aggressive, downhill running group. The running game did improve, even though it featured more outside stretch plays. From a technique standpoint, the 2013 group was more fundamentally sound... the 2015 group more physical.
Positives were the improvement in Nijman, Osterloh, and Hansen (who was EXCELLENT at the end of the year minus one pass protection bust a game.) The running game improved, although it was inconsistent, especially when defenses loaded up against it. I am not sure if that blame falls on the playcalling (Loeffler) or technique (Searels.) I would argue that against Tulsa, a bunch of that falls on Lefty.
A lot of DC also coach a position many of them coach LB's.

They were looking for more work to give him since OLB/whips wouldn't keep him busy enough, so it told me that we could afford to combine LB duties under one coach.
Oregon is not a terrible QB school, but they did botch QB recruiting. If they didn't get Adams to transfer, they'd be a 6-6 team with no QB.

See GuitarMan's post above. Foster should keep DC duties (I would never suggest otherwise), but I don't see a need for him to coach a position group too.
Worth noting that the center was a backup as well.

# | Buzz Williams Addresses Lengthy Postgame Meeting Following West Virginia Loss The only defense I'd really have for the media (which is no excuse for how unprofessionally those mentioned acted) that I haven't seen brought to light yet was that this all took place New Year's Eve. I know I left the office at noon so I'm sure the media like most people were eager to wrap up work and get home to their families or get ready for parties that night. Again, I think the media's behavior was very unprofessional and both sides could have handled the situation better but I understand why they may have been so antsy with how long Buzz was taking.
TL/DR: Game was New Year's Eve, people hate working New Year's Eve.

I think with it being a Monday game (9pm at that) this shouldn't be an issue. The WV game was while most people were still taking holiday vacation. I think we will outnumber them, but still not pack it due to the students not being back.
