I think a lot of Hokie fans don't realize how mentally taxing it is to be a cornerback, especially one that's asked to play a lot of man coverage.
I'll never know what it takes to get oneself mentally prepared to spend 4 quarters chasing around another teams most talented athlete. Nor will I know what it's required to psyche myself back up after getting burned for a long touchdown on a previous drive. There's no hiding for cornerbacks. Deangelo Hall is an athlete, a very succesful one. I don't know enough about that life to even pretend to judge his attitude on the field. However, I've never heard a single story about him being anything less than a great Hokie off the field.
But if you want to look down on him, that's fine. He certainly wasn't perfect. However, this is an article about the impact that Frank Beamer had on the lives of the athletes he coached. Shouldn't we focus on that and not spend time taking shots at a guy who is just communicating how much he loves his former coach?
Not to mention the loss of 2 defensive starters, one prior to the game one in first quarter can't have helped.

I'm hoping that Bud, with his experience against many differing offensive styles, will be able to adjust his defense to handle anything they see. If not, last night's shootout may become the norm.
I think last night's sub-par defensive performance was the result of recruiting/lack of depth. If recruiting can improve, I have no doubt that we can return to having an elite defense in the upcoming years.
I was just at Denny's, and I was nice to our waiter, but he apparently needed some training. When I have the lil guy in tow, I'll tend to tip friendlier, but today the waiter got 10%. I was still nice, but he didn't show skills to deserve a good tip.
The percentage tipping thing bothers me. I worked in the restaurant industry for years, so typically like to take care of wait staff. The reason why percentage base tipping bothers me is that I've been to Applebee's or some similar restaurant and the server kills it. Then I'll go to a fancier restaurant and the server is horrible. However the better server would only get $6 for a good tip, and horrible server $10 for a bad tip. Seems off to me. I've been known to hook up those more casual restaurants wait staff a bit more. One or two more bucks means a lot to them.
As for attitudes, should always be nice. However, if they got the stink, then that can come back to you and sour yours.

I agree for the most part. There's a potential flip side as well though. Living here in Big 12 country, I am constantly listening to analysts on sports talk radio here trying to understand why Big 12 defenses seem so weak while the offenses are so prolific. The one thing that they always come back to is that the defenses, practicing against up-tempo and spread offenses on a day to day basis tends to weaken them against more traditional offenses as we have seen particularly in bowl games, and the mindset against up tempo, passing teams is one of "we can't stop them, but we can contain them". Now this would be interesting. Sad, but interesting nonetheless.
We were there last night. It was crazy watching CFB walk off the field for the last time as Hokie Head Coach. Glad me and my son were there to see it. He was so pumped. Many players such as Isaiah, Sam, Trayvon shook his hand. Eric Gallo even stopped and talked. Told us thank you for coming. Classy. Even the Tulsa kid who won DPOG was classy about being able to play against CFB. Now I'm paying for it with stop and go traffic all the way back to Oklahoma.
Another thought I had was that practicing against Fuente's up-tempo offense will give our defense plenty of practice in stopping it. Not surprised that Tulsa scored points, but I must admit that I expected Bud to get it figured out for the second half. Props to Tulsa, though. They came to play and brought their A game on offense.
The defenses don't gots no good offenses to practice against!
