More or less the evaluation of the player is more relevant than stars. Now I do agree his tape doesn't make people jump out of their seats, but he's pretty quick off the ball. And if he's a Sam Rogers type who works his butt off, I think that's a great add to the team.
The thing about 2* offers; and this is merely speculation, but more than likely their character is in check and they'll come in to work, they don't have the accolades or the stars or the offers not to.

It will take longer for him to field a top 10 offense than a "system" coordinator, but I think he has that potential.
This is interesting. It's the first time I've ever heard this notion. What he did in Memphis in four years seemed like it happened at breakneck speed, considering the absolute disaster the Memphis offense was when he came in.
My point was that I'm glad I learned my lesson back when I could only spend $15 or so on these games every month in order to have access to everything. Nowadays I'm sure I'd spend more than that if I let myself play them.
Either way, I'm mostly glad that I got tired of treadmill games that keep going and going without any clear end point. They're just not for me.
So basketball is like Big XII football...

I think its pretty clear but in his first year, Fuente must make it to and win a bowl game next year. If he doesn't make a bowl he'd been in trouble. Second year goal should be minimum nine wins and the Coastal if not the ACC. Third year ACC. If we really want to be optimistic win the National Championship in year four.

And hell, even if the defense does get mauled, our front four will be so different next season, with the loss of Marshall, Maddy and Dadi, we have no idea what the D line will be like next year. Could be better, could be worse.
Now if our defensive backfield gets torched, that's another issue. But I feel really good about Facyson, Mook, Alexander and Clark. Like, maybe as good as I've ever felt when we haven't had TWO Fullers at the corners.
I completely understand Coach Fuente hasn't even coached a game yet, but it took 4 years for him to achieve greatness at Memphis
Just nitpicking here for clarification. It only took Fuente 3 years. In fact, it is arguable that Memphis had a better year last year than this year. In 2014, they went 10-3 and won the AAC (co-champion with UCF and Cincinatti). Two of their loses were to UCLA and Ole Miss, both top-25 teams. This year, they're 9-3, with a win over top 25 team, but 3 in conference losses.
As for the argument, I would find it extremely difficult to imagine a lack of improvement in football. We will see a difference next year, and definitely by year 3. But, what's enough? The Coastal will become a relatively tough division. Is winning 9 games enough? Must VT win the Coastal? ACC? major bowl games?

# | Discussion: Will the outcome of the Independence Bowl have any lasting effect on you? The only meaning this game has for me is that I get to watch the Hokies play this Saturday. I couldn't care less if we win or lose, outside of always wanting VT to win. That was my feeling with last year's bowl game, and with any bowl game that isn't the Playoffs or against a team that we actually have a rivalry with.
I think that we should be able to win about 5 games in ACC. Games like Wake, BC, NC State, and GT are winnable if we play a little bit better. However, after the Saint Joe's performance there is no way where beating WVU next week.
Virginia Tech basketball was a train wreck before Buzz. One game that always sticks in the back of my mind was against Pittsburgh when we took them to OT but somehow didn't make one field goal through 1 or 2 overtimes (that may be statistically inaccurate, but it was 1 or 2 field goals if not 0).
It has actually been the opposite of disappointing to say the least. Last season, without his own players, Buzz managed to take several great teams to the end of the game (Duke and UVA). Now, almost the entire roster has turned over. We're 8-4 and blowing out teams we should blow out (forget Alabama State).
No one said we were going to the NCAA Tournament by year 2. If they did, they need to take off the orange and maroon glasses. NIT is a realistic probability this year, although not a lock. Tech managed a lower seed in the 2004-05 season going 16-14 during the regular season. We were on the bubble seemingly every year from Malcolm Delany's freshman to senior year and never got into the NCAA Tournament. It's very exclusive. Buzz is a good coach. Give it more than 1 and a half seasons.
As for football, again, don't expect a NY6 bowl or CFP next season. While it's more realistic than the basketball team making the NCAA Tournament, it's just not likely. There has to be roster turnover. Getting Jerod Evans and keeping Joshua Jackson was a step in the right direction, but the defensive line is going to be hurting next season, I still don't trust Motu all that much, and the offensive line isn't going to be what it was back in the Big East days.
We were blessed to have witnessed so much success since 1993. It took Beamer 7 seasons to build that. Fuente isn't building from nothing like Beamer did, but he's not building from a solid foundation either. 2-3 seasons and we will see the results. Till then, be patient.
We were routed by St. Joe. Let's see what happens with WVU. They dominated LOLUVa in the first half. No one got excited. Bennett looked like he was sitting in church and they went out and destroyed WVU in the 2nd half.
I made a couple #GameDay4Frank posters a little early, and even though Gameday never came, I'm still glad I made them because of what one said: "The next time someone asks me what a Hokie is, I'm going to say Frank Beamer."

A man who will keep his word, no matter the cost. A gentleman and a friend when you need one the most. That, friend, is a Hokie." God bless him and all that he did for Virginia Tech and southwest Virginia.

Buzz has only been in Blacksburg since March '14. I say give the man the length of his current contract because we're not gonna get a better coach than Buzz as of now. IMO he's already got a core of guys to build the program around. It's essential for those guys to set the ground rules and pave the way for future Hokie recruits and players. If the players continue to practice what coach preaches (with their play and camaraderie on the court and character and integrity off the court), then they will fortify the culture Buzz is instilling into our bball program. That in turn will bring the best OKGs (Our Kinda Guy) Buzz needs to build off the foundation he's creating.
As far as I can tell, he's already getting there. The wins and consistency will follow suit once those are all in place.

We started 8-4 last year as well. The real test will be pulling out a few more ACC victories along the way
but I thought someone only has thousands of legs if they already parrot the TKP party line...and post gifs. Lots of gifs.
