Offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler, who was hired a little less than three years ago, knows better than the rest how itinerant the profession can be, with five stops in eight years since he was forced to leave a relatively secure gig at Michigan following Lloyd Carr's retirement in 2007.
"I'm a 30-for-30 special. I have four of these," Loeffler joked, referencing Carr's retirement, Urban Meyer's resignation from Florida, Gene Chizik's firing at Auburn and now Beamer's retirement.
"In all seriousness, that's part of the business. That's where the business is going. I got to stay at a place at my alma mater [Michigan] from 1993 all the way to 2007. Very similar to this situation. And when I walked out of those doors, I knew it'd be different. And it was extremely different. ...
"You're going to win or you're going to move. Or you're going to win and you're going to get a better job. So it's a crazy industry."
If they could win ACC titles and never recruit a player from out of state, that would be tremendous. I was born and raised in Southwest Virginia (and frankly every day I spend in Fairfax County is a day poorly spent.) Football has become too niche for that to play out. Kids have more sports options at the high school level and tend to specialize before they discover their best sport. There just are not as many kids playing football, and that thins the talent pool.
There are not enough good football players in-state. Fight like hell and get the guys who fit that will be difference makers. Identify kids that can be developed in state. Then look outside the state to address gaps. That is exactly what is happening.

If we show up wearing anything that looks some what close to those jerseys (within NCAA rules and regs) I would be one happy hokie. The concept is basically a fresh look on our jerseys from 1999-2003 which were my years in the burg.
For the record, if one of them is going to come back and be productive, my money is on Juice. I think Shai McKenzie is shaping up to be the second coming of George Bell.
This should be an absolute no-brainer for Sam. You've got Muschamp, a defensive-minded coach who tanked Florida, or one of the best spread offense gurus in Justin Fuente. I mean, I can't blame him for taking a visit; being a P5-level recruit happens once in a lifetime for about 1% of the general population. But logically, there's zero reason to pick USCe over VT right now if you're a skill position player.
I like landing Virginia recruits because our school is in Virginia. Football is an emotional game...kinda of tribal, kind of playing to the darker side of our evolutionary past. That's how I feel, anyway, as a fan, and when I got hopped up playing long ago. I think we have an edge when we get guys that have an attitude that they are from Virginia, and are playing for VT - for state pride.
But maybe I should just quietly head out to pasture with Frank...
Winning is all that really matters.
Turley is from Bluefield, WV (an hour from Blacksburg). He grew up down the road from me and my mom taught him in elementary school.

I bought that book back in the day! I was a big believer in what Gentry was doing, and wanted to get an edge for my football playing son. Lots of good stuff in there.

Would the lodge boxes need to be behind the student section as they would sit higher up,thus providing a view over the students whereas expanded seating would have a blocked view by standing students
