Agree on WCAC and Dematha...mucho talent. Woodberry..meh.....that place is UVA jr... Yulee has academic issues apparently. But the fact that we got Beckett on board helps with him in the future. I'd like to see Tino flip but I think that group of him and his HS teammates along with Haskins are all in at UMD - regardless of who the coaches are. I could be wrong but that is how I have seen it.

Just to set expectations, I doubt very seriously that you see many, if any, of the top ten Virginia kids (Taylor, Bracey, Yarbourogh, Yulee, Ball, Birmingham, Holloway, McCargo etc) flip. I have heard buzz that maybe they have a shot at Yulee, however the coaches are focused on building relationships and getting a good look at next years kids while letting those kids know what VT football will be about in the Fuente era. Flipping them may be out of the realm of possibility, but hopefully they will pass positive vibes to the next class.
In the meantime, I would love to see them flip Tino Ellis. If there is kid who can help immediately, comes from a program where we want to improve ties, and who could be up in the air with Locksley's status in doubt. Get in his ear.
Oh yeah. I absolutely agree and no one should honestly expect him to return. But if he does, I'm sure no one would be sad about it.
First of all, realize that a coach needs to get the 85 best scholarship players that fit their system. Sometimes you have to go out of state to get those players. I don't buy into the "have to win" Virginia logic. In this day and age where access to information is so wide spread, loyalty to a home state is at a minimum. Find kids that meet your scheme, character, and vision.
Second, most of the recent classes have been on par for normal VT performance within the Commonwealth if you look back all the way to around 2001. This year has been subpar, which isn't surprising given that most the kids were sure that Beamer would not be their coach for their entire career. Besides Levonta Taylor, there really wasn't a big time prospect in state- all due respect to the recruiting rankings.
Third, the PERFORMANCE of Virginia recruits has gone down hill. Jonathan Allen, Josh Sweat, Derek Nnadi, and Greer Martini (contributer at Notre Dame) have been big time contributors. A ton of the other "misses" have gone elsewhere and have done very little at other programs. Part of that is I believe a bunch of the Virginia kids have been overrated based on the performance of past players. There are fewer DI caliber players in Virginia right now than I can remember in recent times. The roster reflects that. Look at VT's lineup. There are only 3 players from the 757 starting (Motuapuaka, Hodges, and Clark). The best players on the team, for the most part, have come from Northern VA (Teller, Ekanem, and McMillian), Maryland (Phillips and Fuller), Florida (Ford, Maddy, Nicolas) and then Facyson (Georgia), Brewer (Texas), Nijman and Malleck (New Jersey.)
You have to create a national brand and create pipelines. I have screamed that Fuente's staff has to make inroads at DeMatha, Woodberry Forest, Benedictine, IMG Academy, and Trinity Christian. The Hokies have already reached out to a couple of Trinity Christian's players and Ford's success needs to be elevated into the national thought process to keep those kids interested. DeMatha is loaded with DI talent and Cam Phillips played right away and has been very good. Get that message in front of those kids. I am not saying that the Hokies shouldn't recruit the 757. But, offering kids just to "win Virginia" is VERY shortsighted thinking.

He was the Director over all the sports, but Terry Mitchell is the main person over Olympic sports and Dave Jackson is over the basketball teams. The guy from Memphis is most likely the guy coming in with Fuente and the other football S&C guys will be on a probationary period in which they will know if they get retained past that time period. Most likely you will see a split similar to Hokie Vision in that football will only deal with football. Dave Jackson will oversee Basketball and Terry Mitchell will oversee Olympic Sports. That really isn't all that different from now other than that Dave and Terry report to Gentry. Instead the three will now individually report to Ballien.

yeah it sounds like overblown petty gossip to me. Who would be happy that they are losing their job and will have to relocate their family? No one. So I don't expect him to be happy about it. At the same time, I doubt very much that he was pissed. Disappointed? Sure. I'd buy that. Pissed seems kind of extreme. That sounds more like people assuming that he's pissed that he's not going to be around any longer. But, I'm not working in the athletic department and I don't know how Lefty carries himself. Perhaps he blew up when he was told officially. I have my doubts but I've been wrong before. Plenty of times.

Individual level doesn't matter at the team level - aggregate level does.
The problem with your 'stars don't matter' argument, as we've been discussing for about 15 years now, is, sure, 2-3 stars end up in the NFL, so do 4-5 star. But as a percentage, far MORE of the 4-5 star end up in the NFL than 2-3 star. And the crux of the matter is - no one has been able to develop a way of picking WHICH 2-3 stars will end up in the NFL.
You need to look no farther than our recruiting the past few years - our 2-3 stars tend to not pan out.
You may be right. But I remember reading somewhere on here that his family really wants him to get his degree like his brothers. However, if I were Kendall, I'd get paid today and come back for the degree at some point later.
I'd like to see Shane get a shot, but I'd have to root against him in every contest if he went to ECU.
It's impossible to identify one guy as my favorite VT player ever. That being said, he is a lock for my top 5 if I ever attempt such an exercise.
