His salary may only be $3.2 mil this year but also account for the $500,000 that Tech is also paying Memphis as his buyout. Essentially bumping him this year to $3.7mil. If thats all there is then he really needed Buzz to negotiate his contract. Williams had all kinds of other perks written into his contract.

Much of Fuente's recruiting experience has come a long ways from Southwest Virginia, but the former Murray State quarterback isn't worried about developing relationships throughout the region.
"We will hire great people. People always win out," said Fuente. "It doesn't matter what part of the country you're in, when you hire great people, they'll do a great job and other people recognize that."
Fuente laid out the three underlying themes that he believes a program should be built on — mentoring young men, player development and recruiting. And while Fuente was certainly passionate about the first two, his voice perked up for the third and final pillar.
"We've gotta recruit," said Fuente. "We've gotta bring good young people to this community. That all starts in the state of Virginia. We have to do a great job in this state in order to continue this program along. And we will."
If there's a better way to say it I can't think of one. Obviously he has to follow through on that, but so far I think we'll be just fine.
Seriously. The guy's base pay per month is my annual salary. Remind me why the %#$@% I spent all that time to get a doctorate?
I was talking to a GE buddy of mine and asked him about the whole 'industrial company that is also a digital company' ad blitz. Specifically, I asked him which IE they were using. He said some people were on 8, some people were on 9. I shed a tear for the future of that company.
Honestly good for them if they think it's the right person for the job. USC is a big enough name that they don't need to make a splash to be recognized in the CFB world. As stated above, his performance on the field will ultimately matter much more than the name.
Makes sense, and kudos to Whit for working this out so that Fuente can be recruiting for two weeks from now until mid-December.
He really thought this through. The new coaches get a leg up on all those schools without coaches in place.

I have read in the past (at college and pro levels of sports) that the AD/GM will contact the other coach's AD/GM and request permission to speak with the coach. In some cases I think this is required, at minimum it is simply professional etiquette.
Yeah but a lot of coaches say that (I mean what is he supposed to say if he's trying to audition for the job or any job, that he learned nothing from his struggles at Ole Miss?). And frankly I still don't buy his results that year really indicated much of anything in terms of his approach, besides being a guy players liked and could rally around for a late season push. The former of which was already known, and that factor didn't help guys like Mike London achieve long term success as a HC (as an example). USC is one of the premier destination spots in college football, they could have definitely done better than Orgeron. Nothing against the guy, but still I don't think Orgeron was the right move for them.
I do agree about Helton's removal of his interim status as making up for that Orgeron decision though (removing my opinions about it).
I noticed that Whit mentioned having discussions with Memphis AD Tom Bowen. Is this standard practice when hiring a coach away from another program or is this just another example of Whit doing business the right way? I love everything about how Whit has handled the last 5 weeks. It's been incredible. He's done a terrific job.
Extremely coach-friendly. I cannot see VT buying out his contract before the end of the 2021 season, thus pretty much guaranteeing him the entire contract.
That's a lot of trust in Fuente. I hope Whit is right.
Edit: If Fuente is the real deal, his salary will be considered low in 3-4 years. Thus, it could be a really good for VT, if Fuente can get VT back to ACCCGs and NY6s.

Sure, errors are made, but in a world of 140 characters, errors are accepted and looked past frequently. To harp on the things that bother you personally, such as errors on a RT, extra lines, emojis, and hashtags, is to overlook the change that has occurred in our social media presence and that change has actually given us a presence. Many of the folks who originally managed our online presence are still working with Pete, but we hired him to increase our visibility and our reach. The dozens of folks who are upset with how things are run are outweighed by the thousands who appreciate the exposure and presence.
He won today that's for sure . He won it by hitting themes we've all heard from Beamer before... Develop young men... hire good people... run the ball first. He also did it sounding down to earth. First impressions aren't the only thing , but it sure helps with the transition if you make a good one.
