Happy Thanksgiving!
He's one of the hottest names out there right now. If we weren't apparently already locking him up, someone else would be well on their way to doing so.
If he's our coach, we got ourselves a really, really good one.
And it wouldn't hurt if VT's student population grew by 30-50%...
I believe President Sands has said that was the 5 year goal.
I hope he's finally got his act together, and that he makes the grade.
I did see that. VT interested: "I'm not saying either way". Mizzou interested: "He's off the market."
Excellant as always gentlemen, and hopefully Sam does not read cause he might hide your truck!
No, but it's wrong that you'd accept compromise on this.
Pie don't take no prisoners!
So maybe we discussed this before, but who else was interested in Fuente? He's not hot just because VT opened up, is he?
(edit: just asking because I hadn't heard of him before our search, I've got Hokie colored glasses, and it's interesting that everyone is so quick to call this a done deal as if there's no competition)
Apparently Mizzou approached his agent and was told he was off the market
Yes, if VT is 6-6 in three years, people won't be happy.

# | Dan Wolken tweets Fuente to VT "is happening" but stops short of saying it is a done deal. Thanks for sharing. I think he is a great fit for Hokie Nation
Don't forget Coach Beamer, that bowl streak or LOLVUVA win streak wouldn't be there without him!!!
The problem with Cody is he had a bunch of things swept under the rug in high school so he had a misconception that his actions had no consequences.
It depends on the business, but most hierarchical business models delegate hiring authority, and it's the way most college football programs work.
The football coach is the highest paid guy at the university, and his job is dependent on the hires he makes. So he's usually the one who gets to make the hiring and firing choices on his team.
If you're a football coach worth your salt, you're not going to let the athletic director tell you who your offensive and defensive coordinators are going to be.
That said, if Bud is available and willing to stay, I think you'd be nuts not to consider him.
Do you think [Fuente] would buy in to using starters for a few years to help get things kicked off? That would make things interesting.

# | Dan Wolken tweets Fuente to VT "is happening" but stops short of saying it is a done deal. I'm at the point now where I'm content with what seems to be the three of Herman, Mullen, and Fuente. Rich Rod is off the table so it seems like Tech is in a win-win-win situation here because all three of these guys are excellent coaches. Exciting times everyone!
This is how Wolken put it in his coaching carousel article:
"Meanwhile, one person with direct knowledge who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the matter said discussions between Fuente's representatives and Virginia Tech are already fairly advanced and that Fuente is by far the favorite to be first off the board."
He probably read too much into the posts on the Tigers forum saying that the losses are from the players knowing the coach is gone.
I very much doubt that was the case.
Same game, different name. It's all just one big recruiting season. Only difference with a "coaching search" is you're trying to recruit a grown man to come to your school to recruit the kids. Same choices for tradition, conference, academics, current roster, location, family input, etc. are still there.
It may be the alcohol but what if Bud were the HC and Fuente makes the jump to P5 as OC? Cam Cameron makes 1.5 million / year at LSU.. Wonder if he'd consider it.
Definitely the alcohol. Fuente already got to the Rose Bowl as an OC at TCU.

Jake Grove is undefeated as an assistant coach in high school over the past two years during the regular season; working through the playoffs again right now.
I'm thankful for our bowl game streak, our UVA streak, and TOTS rails.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Math!
I've enjoyed reading these articles over the course of the season. Good job guys. Here's hoping we get a chance to read one more before it's all said and done.
