I'm rooting for him. I obviously don't know this for a fact, but if I had to guess, Cody is one of the only kids from Giles County to ever make it out on a D1 scholarship to a school like VT, and he just didn't have a hometown mentor because there had never been kids in that position before.
Regardless, I think he realizes that his football life isn't immortal and he is seeing that window closing. His film does look impressive as well. Hopefully he gets a chance.
I meant you have zero optimism in Bud succeeding as the VT head coach if he were to get the job at this point in time. I agree that Loeffler won't be here next season. His coaching abilities were extremely suspect to me from the very start. Sorry for calling you out, one thing that has irked me is that the same people who thought Loeffler was a good hire seem to overlap with people thinking that Bud should not get a chance at head coach. I could go back to those threads and find plenty more quotes from others but I really don't understand the thought process behind why everyone unanimously agrees that Bud is a great DC, but needs to prove himself before getting a chance at being the VT head coach when Loeffler was the exact opposite of being proven. I mean, why would anyone have more faith in Loeffler than Bud, and if you do, you should reevaluate your views on coaches.

Mullen is the best proven head coach of all the names mentioned. I still think it is highly unlikely that it happens. I would be pleasantly surprised. Any hire of out of Mullen, Herman, Fuente, or Morris would be fine with me, especially if Bud is retained.

Bud and Morris have basically the same HC experience.
Morris is light years ahead as an OC.
Bud light years ahead as a DC.
Right now we prefer an OC oriented guy. And its not close. This is the key to restoring recruiting in VA.
Bud strolls in Whit's office tomorrow with Applewhite or someother up and coming OC...and they are telling the same offensive story and it makes sense is compelling to RBs WRs and QBs (don't forget the hog mollies or whatever people call them)...if Whit doesn't have a gentlemen's agreement... I think the decision gets a WHOLE lot harder.
Pie is better than cake. They should not be mixed.

I didn't read all of this, but when I venture into a conversation about Bud "deserving" to be the next head coach, Randy Shannon is my person of comparison. Great DC at Miami, bad HC.
Great coordinator does not equal Great Head Coach.
