Jake Grove is undefeated as an assistant coach in high school over the past two years during the regular season; working through the playoffs again right now.
I'm thankful for our bowl game streak, our UVA streak, and TOTS rails.
Happy Thanksgiving!

# | Dan Wolken tweets Fuente to VT "is happening" but stops short of saying it is a done deal. I am treating the coaching search like recruiticorns, when they are signed and on campus I will believe it...
I can't believe this. It seems more like something he would say after the SMU game and probably the week after and not right after the game. From all I've read about Fuente I don't think he do something like that.
"Hey guys, played your hearts. You deserved the win, we just didn't get it. 1 or 2 plays and it's a different game (this is where Whit heard JF channel Beamer and knew he was the right guy). Oh and by the way, I'm taking the VT job. See you guys at film review."
Drink! :)
Agreed completely. Besides, guys like Herman and Fuente come along pretty frequently, so if we pass on these guys and gave Bud the shot, if things didn't work out we'd probably be able to pick up someone very similar to these guys. A Bud Foster only comes along every so often.
As a side note, this scenario was given in another thread several weeks ago and I love it...Suppose Bud DOES leave to coach at another school (doesn't matter where), and he does GREAT, completely burns it up and ends up building a program to be proud of. Meanwhile, *insert Fuente, Herman, whoever in here* does so-so or bad and can't get Tech off the ground again. Whit goes after Bud and gives him the chance to build the program he loves from the ashes....and HE DOES IT. It's a long shot, but hey it could happen!

And

And a bit of this

As I've mentioned in other threads, the only way I see Bud Foster leaving is on his own. A new HC would be just ignorant to not try and retain Bud Foster. VT's defense is a pride of the program. The lunch pail defense is known. To mess that up just wouldn't seem smart to me to start out with. Even when VT defense's haven't been up to our standards they are still pretty good defenses. I would think that if it is indeed Fuente as the HC that he will try and retain Bud and Company. On O the only person I would like to see retained is Burden, but I understand if they don't.
I dont' think Bud "deserves" the job. If he was the best person interviewed then I'm sure Whit would have made the decision. However, it appears he's not. Whit said he wanted someone with HC experience. Fuente has a few years as a HC and has brought Memphis a long way in his short tenure. Looking at that Fuente and Mullen would be the best choice (as Herman and Morris are still in their first year).
I trust in Whit to make a great hire. Fuente was at the top of my list with Herman so I'll be stoked if all the smoke does lead to him. If he is able to keep Bud and company I will be freaking out. If Bud leaves, it's his own decision. However I think the new HC would be able to attract a good DC to VT with our tradition of defense at VT. There are other DCs out there that are good. I trust in Whit. I trust in the new HC to try and retain Bud. And as was stated before, no disrespect, but I'm glad Weaver isn't making this decision because it probably would have been Bud w/o even looking at other candidates.

# | Dan Wolken tweets Fuente to VT "is happening" but stops short of saying it is a done deal. Smoke screens being put out about Herman, Mullen and such. I'm sure there could be a last minute switcheroo .. But with Forde's tweet, I was pretty well convinced that Fuente is our guy .. I'd be pretty surprised if he weren't at this point .. All are just trying to keep it under wraps, rightfully so
So who's the next special teams coach?
I am so torn on all of this. Selfishly I am just not ready to let Bud go. I imagine a world where Fuente does everything that we have wanted on offense and Bud continues to terrorize ACC offenses. For Bud though I just hate for him to feel like he is not appreciated. I hope if he does stay we can somehow make it clear how much he means to us.
Yeah pretty much .. Probably a good move by Illinois to do this. Things are a mess there.
Bud would be crazy to go there. Dead end job with nothing to gain but a little experience that, at his age, won't matter much .. And a little more money
Have a feeling if we keep him, that money thing will work itself out
Your business =\= college football. It's just not how it's done at p5 programs. If you told a new hc they had to keep most of the coordinators and bud, your choices would basically be head ball cop or someone already on staff.
Then who extends him the Board? Just like at UCF who hires the AD and new coach?
Happy Gobble Gobble Gooble Day to all you fellow TKP'ers as well. Driving by LOLUVA yesterday morning on my way to 757, I had the local radio stations on & they were all excited by the game & didn't have any besmirching remarks to say about us, so Happy Bird Day to them too.
Or their parents, a GA, an assistant who won't stay on, a Memphis equipment manager etc etc.

Pardon my Hokie!

Success as a coordinator does not necessarily point toward success as a head coach.
What are you talking about????
Navy
TCU
Ohio State
Mississippi State
Notre Dame
Florida
Oklahoma State
Richard Campbell
But we only need to change the offense, not the defense.
With the "fixation" bit, And some of the posts that people are just ok with Bud staying. They are just ok with him leaving.
I think THAT is ridiculous. We have an excellent defense and need to just change the offense.
On an off topic, we lose so much next year that spring ball is going to be a toss up. qB and 4th down QB both graduate.
For real. An entire team of 18 year old players and not a single one got upset and decided to talk about it?
