That, and there's an amusing vocal minority over there that legitimately think they're a better football program than VT, with far, far more upside.
Better TEAM, this year? Probably. Better program? Lol.
EDIT:
Interesting comment one poster on memphis board made about replacing Fuente with Venables. How ironic would it be if Foster took that job after VT hired Fuente...
I'd far and away prefer Fuente to Richt. Mullen is a different story, but Richt is a great guy who has annually underachieved on the field given the resources available to him at UGA and his team's talent level. In the last 10 seasons, UGA has had 7 recruiting classes rated by Rivals as Top 10 in the nation and all 10 classes were ranked in the top 15. However in that same span, UGA has finished ranked in the Top 10 of the AP Poll just 3 times and are on pace to finish unranked this season for the 4th time in the same period.
Our offense isn't intended to be a run 'n gun 600 ypg scheme that maximizes # of possessions over length of possession... it's an offense based on the synergistic (with the defense) concept of marching deliberately down the field & scoring while keeping the ball away from the other team.
That's the issue - we rarely march down the field, we rarely score, and we rarely keep the ball away from the other team.
Three stats I'd like to see, that I think would change your opinion:
- Points/Drive
- Median yards/drive
- Median time/drive
I do think that, if we want to be a 'ball control offense' we can get by with <500 ypg, but it's essential to maximize those three stats. Let's pretend we only have five drives/game, but each goes 90 yards, averages 6 minutes, and we score TDs on three of them, FG's on the other two. That's a super efficient offense.
The biggest issue with Lefty's offense is how many drives 'stall out.' What % of drives are 3 & out? What % of drives do not result in ANY score?
I don't know where to find these stats, but I'd wager that the first three statistics mentioned above are far too low, and the the number of 3 & out's and scoreless drives are way too high.

Throwback Mascot Mock, Y'all.
Agree completely.
I'm also going to go ahead and say it -- he won't be the HC at Memphis next season. (I know....I'm way out on a limb here). I'm just saying the only question is where he's going (not if).
What site were you on?
I don't trust football scoop
Yea, this was just posted an hour or so ago on coachingsearch.com. I didn't see it anywhere here on TKP. Though, I'll happily DRINK! Especially if we land Fuente.
This was after the video interview.... Yeah, certainly seems like one of his personal PR people got in his ear and told him to clarify his comments. I'm starting to lean towards this one being for real.
He left his account open at the Apple store and a LOLUVA alum jumped on

To me it appears he is being as transparent as possible given the situation. That is admirable.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Good thing it's not #FrankBall then. I could get behind some #FuenteBall though.
If Whit is handicapping the incoming coach to keep Bud that is a big big mistake.
- Agreed
If Whit is suggesting he keeps Bud that is a good idea.
- If the new HC wants
If new HC doesn't want Bud I would question him and hope he hires someone with P5 experience at DC.
- If he doesn't want Bud, then my opinion quickly goes towards, "Oh, you think your guy will be better?" I'll be skeptical.
If new HC wants to keep Bud and Bud stays that's even better.
- Best of all worlds
If new HC wants to keep Bud and Bud doesn't want to stay I wouldn't blame him
- Agreed. I might blame him a little.

I don't have enough faces or palms.
Could be a play to command every dollar he can get as well
I think we see Leday's role change a bit as we move to the ACC slate. He will likely play more of a 3/Hybrid 4 rather than the 4/5 role he has been playing. Still in the lane but matching up against other 6'7 or 6'8 players on ACC rosters while Blackshear and Hamilton have to grow up fast.
Sound it out, bro....
What I can't put my finger on is the schizophrenic nature of his play calling."
"...finger on is the schizophrenic nature..."
"...schizophrenic..."

Just kidding.
Great conversation everyone, continue on.
Apparently Herman is out of the running for the USCe job and according to this, he wants to stay at Houston in hopes of getting the Texas job down the road.

But it's ok to hire Morris because he has 1 year experience at a horrible school. I know they improved, but I think they would have improved under bud as well....when you're that bad, not many places to go but up. And, I say this thinking that Morris is a good head coach...Just that the past year hasn't really been the reason I think that.
lol
hilarious

Even WORSE.
