Play design and situational play calling have always been his strengths. We've seen his idea of the "walk in" touchdown executed to perfection several times. However, my biggest concern, and I think his biggest weakness as a coordinator (outside of execution errors explained above in the article) is the play to play game flow play calling. Running outside to the short side of the field with Sam Rogers against a 6 man front, not running Travon on 1st and 2nd down when he is hot, running Travon in those situations when he isn't. These head scratcher play calls combined with the aforementioned lack of execution by the o-line or others leads to our offensive inconsistency.

All true. But a dollar donated to the facility is, in theory, a dollar that could have been donated and spent elsewhere in the athletics dept instead of a student fee dollar. Opportunity costs...

Now, I'm not arguing against the practice facility...I'm just saying that just because it was funded by private donations, it still could have indirectly impacted student fees, etc.

This is not unique to VT. Most programs not in the national championship hunt (and even some that are...ahem, UNC) are having attendance issues.

Next year's home schedule is not attractive. There may be a small bump early due to new coach excitement, but I expect overall home ticket revenue to be down next year if prices remain the same.

Personal opinion... we keep Bud. We hire an offensive guru to be our head coach and pony up to pay him. We then turn around and give Bud a very high (>$1M per year) salary to stay on as our DC, and give raises to his staff. We can go relatively cheap on the OC, as the head coach will take most of the playcalling and personnel decisions, and allow those positions to focus more on recruiting and positional training.

I don't think we will ever see Lane filled with season ticket holders, it seats 66,000, 5,000 tickets go to opponent many get returned, the Hokie Club has just a hair over 10,000 members so it would take each member buying 6 tickets each to fill it with just season ticket holders. When was the last time season tickets were sold to just Hokie Club members and what was the capacity of Lane at the time?

I did not think it was a student fan problem, the shots of the student section were the only ones that showed good support. I think it is likely too many of the money donors with seats up front did not go to this game. As for getting incentive points, at UNCheat the student ID is scanned when attend the football or field hockey and other lessor sporting contests so you can credit toward getting Ball tickets. Based on the way things looked on TV we need to change who sits where so we look decent on TV and can give the players a better atmosphere.

Rotation? Why not all of them! Chadrich Rodriguefeuntermanullenoster for head coach!

This time next week we are likely to know who it is. Also the insiders over at 247 have been consistently saying that Bud is staying. Obviously I would personally love for Bud to be a successful headcoach somewhere although the other part of me wonders who we could get to replace Bud? Odom maybe if it is Fuente? Grantham (although that is going to be hella expensive)

I'm with you. Except that I don't think Bud is retained. For Bud's sake, I think I'd like to see him get an HC gig somewhere. He's 56 (I think?) and if his dream truly is to be a HC he needs to start getting that experience pronto.

I think any of the guys we've mentioned over the last 4 days (Morris, Mullen, Herman, Fuente) would be strong hires for us. I wouldn't be upset with any of them. I think it'll be Herman. If not, I'm sure I won't be upset with whoever it is. I trust Whit to knock this out of the park. He's proven to be more than capable at his job thus far. He's obviously well connected and smart. He knows that this hire could make or break his career. He also knows that at the end of the day, he needs to put butts in seats. He's going to hire someone and then make sure the whole fan base is damn excited about him. I'm sure we'll all jump for joy at the announcement. I just can't wait for it to get here. All of this speculative debate is tiring (even if it is kinda fun)

So rotating running backs worked great, right?

So let's do the same thing, but with head coaches.
