On the TD that made it 17-10 after the Rogers fumble, VT wasn't set. There was confusion on the dive/keep assignments between Dadi and Clarke. Both stayed outside on QB and nobody was there to crash inside on Hood.

This is not how Bud drew it up.

With this alignment, if correct, Dadi has to crash and take away the dive. He plays contain, staying angled outside shoulder of the tackle. Dadi should be crashing with Clarke coming in behind him to take dive.

However before the snap, VT's guys were still standing and moving around. Clarke could have been aligned wrong or confused on his assignment. In that case, Clarke would be responsible for the gap that appears in front of the official. Dadi would have dive support and inside QB dive. Chuck Clark is there to take anything wide. Without being in the huddle, it is impossible to know which was the real bust. However, it was clearly a bust and not an example of UNC suddenly becoming overpowering.

First and foremost, I hope everything is well with your family.

Secondly, I agree with all of this. I'm legitimately curious as to what was going on with the consistent, unobstructed view, no calls on holding on Ekanem. It was as you said around a half a dozen times he beat the LT to the outside and when he attempted to come back to the QB from behind he was blatantly held in place, often time RIGHT BESIDE a ref. Very, very confusing that it would happen so many times, so obviously without a call.

Now I'm hearing that the playoff selection committee is going to select the best coach for all 100 and whatever division 1 teams during the off season.

Everybody is getting a new coach.

I agree. Contrary to all the "done deal" articles and posts we've seen, I don't think anything is a done deal yet. I think we're getting down to the wire and that a pool of a few candidates are in consideration. Whit will do his homework and get the guy he wants.

I just keep thinking about all the things we've heard from or about Whit, as far as not believing what you read, and there is a reason for every leak. From that and what I've read elsewhere, I think the Pat Forde news is coming from another school who had interest in Fuente and may have been turned down. I definitely think he's a finalist, but I don't think anything is certain quite yet.

Indicative of the way my weekend went, I completely forgot that students are on break this week. Still, if you see the kids around town if you are staying in Blacksburg, give them a pat on the back.

this seems to be a pattern. i remember reading some of the explanations Stiney would give as to why a certain play didn't work and it would seem like a dissertation. I consider myself an educated person, and if you lose me in an explanation that's supposed to be rather simple, then you're probably over-complicating it. Now, if I'm confused, it's probable the players that are supposed to be running the play are as well. Sometimes the K.I.S.S. principle is best.

I actually think that Loeffler's play action passes are some of the best designed I've seen, I just wish that he'd take the time to establish the run. If he was part of a staff where he was forced to line up under center and run the ball, he would have a lot more success.

Not saying you're wrong but I think there's a big difference between relying on your quarterback and requiring a competent quarterback. Alabama doesn't rely on their quarterback but obviously you can't win with a guy that throws like the dad from that Volkswagen commercial

Fair question.

About where it is. 20-25. Possibly a little higher, but the difference between, say, 17 and 25 is pretty insignificant.

I'd love to see VT move into being in the top 15 on at least a semi-regular basis like Miami, UCLA, Oregon, Auburn.

But I think Whit needs to pull a massive fundraising rabbit out of his hat to make that likely. And the next coach has to win 9,10,11 games a year. And the ACC Network needs to get going (or the model for the other league networks needs to fall apart). And FSU & Clemson need to continue to win & somebody else (Miami, UNC?) needs to step up and be more competitive on a regular basis -- or perhaps ND and/or Texas join the conference -- to give the ACC 4 or 5 good programs to make the ACC sexier.

And it wouldn't hurt if VT's student population grew by 30-50%...that equals more $$ down the road.

What did you want me to do, write 10,000 words and break down every mistake the offense made the entire game? I rewatch every snap of the entire game multiple times, formulate an educated opinion, and then have to boil that opinion down into an article that doesn't take all day to read. I don't appreciate the implication that I cherry pick a couple of plays here or there to throw together a hit piece. Trust me, I would much rather praise our team then criticize and I went out of my way to show the things that I believe Loeffler does well.

An offensive coordinator has two responsibilities.

- Design an offense
- Teach the team to run that offense

Loeffler is fielding an offense that consistently screws up the basics. Consistently. In every phase of the game (run, short pass, play action, deep pass). The offense had barely 400 yards on Saturday and only tied the game after UNC fumbled twice late in the 4th quarter. If I wanted to show 15 plays of how the offense wasn't able to execute the basics, I could have. How is that not on the offensive coordinator? compare the offense to the defense. Bud Foster's unit has had way more injury/dismissal problems than Loeffler's had and his unit faced a much tougher opponent on Saturday... yet Foster's unit was the one to punch above it's weight. Not Loeffler's.

Scot Loeffler has no excuses. He has a healthy offensive line that has played together all season, he has the same two wide receivers and two tight ends playing that have played all season, he has a breakout star at tailback, he has a second year starter at quarterback who his entire team respects. He has more than enough talent at the skill positions to create mismatches.

If you want to breakdown the film and give me the reasons as to why Loeffler isn't responsible for the product that he puts on the field I'd love to read it.
