Aren't we routinely in the top 25 recruiting classes? I thought 20-25 was our typical stomping grounds.
Why is it laughable? Saban was a bum NFL coach who landed at the best possible school for recruiting and is reaping the benefits. The fact that he has Bama to sell is way more important than some intangible "good recruiter" vibe.
I really think that recruiting is simply a gamble. You put chips in and can keep pushing and pushing and you will win some hands, but if you don't have the cards to back up your chips, you will lose sometimes. Saban has a full house dealt to him all the time. Beamer doesn't.
Also, we consistently have out-recruited UVA in the last few years, so I don't see how we are comparing ourselves to them.
does anyone think it has to do with the fact that he has to learn a new offense for the 1st time in a long time. maybe his mind is tying up his feet as BUD would say. its hard to be a confident QB when you don't know all the offense and if your WRs aren't running the right routes all the time and on time.

Speaking as someone that rarely makes it to ANY games anymore, you should go. Hit up the bar that other TKPers are going to and enjoy watching some Hokie football.
If you can get Bentley out of position, yes. But he is very athletic and moves well laterally. McMillian, Edmunds, and Rogers will get some coverage out of him, however Purdue is like VT in that they don't like Bentley and Ezg in much coverage. They blitz or sit behind the pass rush watching the QB or any late release RBs. Malleck, Hodges, and Rogers will see a bunch of their safeties, I think. The kid from Richlands did score Marshall's first TD on a delayed release out of the backfield.
I live in Nashville (if you couldn't tell by my "name"), and I have been thinking all day about whether I should drive the ~5 hours up to West Laf to see this one. I may not make it to the Burg this fall, so this may be one of my only chances to see the Hokies live this season. I figure tickets shouldn't be too hard to come by outside the stadium.
I'm on the fence.

See performance in big games. With one exception (a playoff loss to the Steelers), Manning performed horribly in the "biggest game" of the year in every season since his freshman year .he has been awful, including his lone Super Bowl win. Hand the MVP to Domnic Rhodes.
Put Beamer at Bama and Saban here and I believe that the recruiting results would be reasonably similar to how they are now.
this is laughable.. bring Saban here and we would easily be getting/closing on our top recruits. I'm not saying top 10 classes but top 25 wouldn't be that hard to do with a name like Saban..
if we continue to gauge our recruiting by looking at what UVA is doing we will continue to have 6-6 seasons.. its almost embarrassing that we have to boost ourselves by always comparing ourselves to UVA.
GIFs as AVIs
Am I the only one that got really confused by this? I mean, AVIs typically have better framerate than GIFs and they have sound. The big advantage of a GIF is file size and universal browser support. So it's like comparing apples and prettier, albeit heavier, apples that can talk.

Something tells me that your win% is the last thing that people will think of when discussing your Pick 6 posts.
Individually, who knows? Most of the players committed to Maryland right now are from MD/NOVA and most of the players committed to UNC right now are from NC, which may have something to do with it. But, just with some cursory looking at the ESPN recruiting rankings, we have more 4 stars (4) than all of those schools(3 each). UVA has 0 4* recruits right now.
This thread seems to be mixing two different thoughts.
1) We need 5 star players and we keep losing them.
2) We keep losing players we want to similar schools.
This does not mean that we keep losing 5* players to similar schools. As far as I can remember, and if I am wrong, I apologize, but I can't remember anyone but the "big boys" (e.g. FSU, OSU, BAMA, etc.) taking a 5* from us.
Also, recruiting is a strange game. Once a recruit commits to your school, there are fewer spots for other recruits, which can send them elsewhere. You necessarily must "lose" recruits.

Lightning doesn't strike twice. I never really thought we would win the game with or without Michael Brewer. I did, however, expect to keep it close. Margin of win/loss +/- 10 points at a maximum. I'm confident that with Brewer at QB for all four quarters, this game would've been decided by less than two touchdowns. That seems to be the general consensus.
I love Tyrod, and I think it's great he's starting and getting an opportunity to show what he can do. But he's not what I'd call a "franchise QB." The last Bill that fits that description is Kelly. But I'd love to be proven wrong.
its laughable because even though bama is a great school he still has to go out an personally recruit these kids they don't just fall into his lap.. he competes with top schools- Auburn, LSU, Miss St, FSU, Ole Miss Clemson OSU..
Whatever he is doing he's doing a damn good job of it. Saban built Bama into who the are today.. took over went 7-6 then the next year they went 12-0. IMO Bama is a tougher sell because they have so much competition and kids want to play right away. He has to get them to buy into the whole sit/watch a year then have 2 good years in college then NFL.
recruiting isn't a gamble at all.. if it was then the same 5-10 schools wouldn't constantly be in the top 20 year after year after year.
