I know Kaaya is what pushed Lawson to Tech. I'm just saying I don't buy the "we have to win to recruit" excuse. Plenty of programs have recruited well after poor seasons, including us.

Kids want to go to places where they can play early, win titles/conferences, go to the NFL.
We have 1 maybe 2 of those things depending on the postion.
Lawson came to tech because he didn't want to sit behind Kaaya for 3 years.. also have to imagine his HS HC helped a ton there as he did come onto the staff weeks after.
I honestly would love to know why we constantly get to the table but then the recruits seem to pick the other hat..
Oh yeah, I agree. Not saying he should be playing, but Logan was really limited with options.

Our MLB has to be able to scrape at play speed. That usually means the heavier guys have hips that are too stiff, but we know from from Vince Hall 6' 0", 240 @ MLB...when they get the size to play the position, and maintain the speed....OMG.
Results actually don't matter that much in context to recruits. I mean our two worst recruiting classes of the last 10 years were 2010 and 2011, after a chic fil a beat down finishing ranked #10 and an ACC championship BCS season. We turned it around and had two great recruiting classes in 2013, 2014 after two incredibly ugly years.
Recruiting is all about the pitch. Lawson came to Tech because he "wanted to get Tech back to winning championships". That's why you see bad programs get recruits when they suck, because they've sold the "return to glory" pitch. For whatever reason, we didn't capitalize on our Tyrod era success, but I don't think we have to wait for an ACC title game to get good recruits.
This is something I've thought about. With all the hate Logan received while he was at Tech, would he want to influence his kid to end up a Hokie? I'm sure his experience was mostly positive but I don't know, he went through a lot of criticism while he was in Blacksburg.
This is kind of what I thought after the game. I think having Brewer stay in the game is worth 7 more points for us and possibly 7 less points for them. And I think that's a pretty conservative look at it, our offense with Motley at the helm did not help in keeping their offense off the field.
This would have had us at a 35-31 loss and I think there's a good chance we might have done better than that.

To me, it's like someone hits a giant pause button while everyone stands around waiting for the game to start back up. It just seems to suck all the energy out of the place for 5 minutes. I'm not sure what to replace it with but if it were up to me, I'd make the hokie pokie the closing act of the halftime performance.
The break between the 3rd & 4th quarters should be like the timeout during the final seconds of the 2011 Miami game -- with people losing their minds and the place going nuts!

10 carries or less would be my expectation. If he averages 5 ypc, it's working.
One thing that I see in Motley that I like is that despite having a strong arm he can display some nice touch which was and always will be Logan Thomas' greatest weakness. LT would throw lasers on 5-yard crossing routes.
Brewer is/was an absolute game manager, but with some experience I do think that Motley has the ability to help us win games with athletic ability and talent without always having to out gameplan/execute our opponents which is what Brewer needs to win. Even the Randall and Tyrod led offenses did not put up big numbers/stats, but they did produce a lot of big plays which (in my opinion) is what we need to win games.

I actually want to a bunch formation, aligned tight, with Ford/Phillips and Malleck/Hodges/Cline blocking the FB-screen...cause that's the way the utilize your play-makers differently and open up other parts of their game, and Sam-MF-Rogers has the wiggle to make that play.

Yay INTs! Especially of the pick-6 variety. I'm going to go out on a limb and say we score 2 TDs on INTs. I'm also of the mind that we go to Lydon early and he'll blow up some plays, but get burned once or twice.

I'm curious why? Are there articles/posts on this? I would argue Lefty is exactly the sort of guy that is needed at VT. He can out-scheme opponents, mitigating the difference in raw talent between us and the OSU, Bama, etc's of the college football world. I'm not real clear on how being a schematically competent coach would be a weakness, so I assume there's something else I'm not aware of.
I dont know how much will translate to him being a great QB, but Motley throws a pretty ball. I look forward to seeing him play the next couple years.
