A discussion of sales as it relates to recruiting must directly address, not what programs are selling, but what recruits are buying. We are not in a blue ocean here - recruiting is a well-developed, well traveled market. The successful salesman determines what is causing the customer pain and then fashions his pitch to show how his product eliminates the pain, building a tight relationship in the process.
Simply put - what the high level recruit is buying right now: the chance to compete for the NC on a national stage, hot chicks and the chance of being a high NFL draft pick. And he clearly values the relationship with his recruiter and the head coach in the process.

I think you can say that VT would have been in the game. I don't really think you can say they had more than about a 50% chance of winning with any certainty at all.
All you can say with certainty is that without Brewer, they didn't really have a chance to win.
Yeah, I wish we still had Tyrion Taylor and Tywin Taylor in the pipeline.
I can't call a win, but I can call a much closer game. I think with Brewer in the VT offense scores two more times (6-14 points). In any scenario regarding those two scores, you most likely take two possessions away from OSU thus making the game much closer.

I think OSU's offensive success would not have changed, but if Brewer kept the ball moving and we scored commensurately it would have kept the ball out of OSU's hands a lot more. No telling if the turnovers would have still occurred. My gut tells me OSU was the better team and they played well enough to win, with or without Brewer. But it might have been a 7-10 point margin of victory.
And the closer you are to the ball, the more you will get both swings of emotions from the fanbase.

All he really has to do is point out GT, TCU, and Oregon. Oregon recruits the best of the three but they are no recruiting juggernaut by any means. They had one class in the Top 10 the past six years. The rest hover in the high teens.
GT especially is the primary example of a team that fields a high performing offense with marginal talent and a commitment to flawless execution of a small number of core plays.
For us, the big issue is Frank's overall philosophy for the offense in relation to defense and special teams, and his stated aversion to a high-commitment offense like the spread. He feels it doesn't engender toughness.
I can't say we win but I firmly believe it is within a 10pt game at the end one way or the other. Leoffler has come out and said they had some good stuff ready for the 2nd half that they had set up but they didn't get to run. I give us a 40% chance that we win that game but it woulda been close.

I think UMD stinking it up this season is only going to make guys like Haskins and Ellis to be even more committed. Somehow, UMD got people to buy into MD pride and the fact that the Terps aren't doing too well now probably makes their highest rated recruits believe that they can come in and make a difference immediately.

Agreed. There isn't much data to back it up. There is an observable trend, even whilst we watch the guy learn how to do the job under a capable teacher (Beamer).
I hate thinking about this, just sucks so bad for Brewer. The only two things that still bother me about that game: (i) I believe Brewer would have played well in the second half and kept us in the game and (ii) that BS pass interference call on Edmunds in the 4th makes me so pissed off. That was 3 and 10, would love to see where he tugged on the jersey.
