based on one long run against furman? I guess we had a few passes over 20 yards and the long of 56 to rogers against OSU, but also no runs over 20. Think we'll have a much clearer picture after purdue/ecu of what type of offense we may have. Hopefully we are able to create some explosive plays.
just for reference last year against W&M we had one run over 20 (39 by shai) and 5 passes over 20 yards with a long of 38 to Knowles. Against OSU long run of 24 and no passes over 20 (bunch of 15-18ish).
Exactly. I was pulling for the Hoos for that very reason. We need them to pick up some wins (obviously not against us) and get close to 500 - not showing off, not lagging behind. That way they can re-up Coach Time Cop.
Does anyone else feel like we should try to find a place for all four QB's in the offense like how we ran LT at tight end? Adds more weapons to offense, maybe add a ripple to Wild Turkey with all of them? Durkin looked like Sam Rodgers taught him how to run with the ball, full steam and down hill. Purdue could be a good opponent to try more of this I suppose?
Almost impossible to track. No stat site I've found tracks YAC. (Or YBC in this case.) I agree with where you're headed logically, but I'm not going to be doing a lot of the number-crunching myself. I want to rely on compiling stats published by others. Let's just assume if YPC is up, that means in general the blocking is most likely better.
OT: but there was a special on TV last night on one of the news programs about Crossfit and the crazy now millionaire that "invented" it.

Both very valid stats. It's got me wondering if I need to track those against the same week last season. Those seem more like "benchmark" stats, targeting a threshold rather than caring how we were doing last season. I'll include YPA and YPC by backs, I just don't know how yet.

Mook laid a guy out on a punt return so that was pretty cool. I didn't notice him in the secondary as much but I also wasn't looking.
Beat me to it. I was going to suggest Explosive Plays. Without explosive plays, the offense has to execute perfectly for more plays to get down the field and a small mistake here or there can stall a drive. Explosive plays help get you closer to the end zone without having to rely solely on perfect execution for so many plays. My initial impression is that we are hitting more of these so far.

Did Mook and Terrell Edmunds get significant PT? I liked what I had seen from both of them in scrimmages and against aOSU but I haven't heard anything about either of them against Furman. I was at the Oregon/MSU game this weekend so sadly I missed the real game in Blacksburg. Also, did Der'woun Greene come in with Adonis on 3rd downs this game like they did against aOSU?

If I were a betting man, I'm still sticking with April 23rd. Relay for Life and Spring game often occur on the same weekend. Relay for Life next year is on the 22nd. The Big Event is the 9th next year, so you won't see Spring Game that day. I would have a hard time seeing us have Spring Game on April 16th for obvious reasons. So that gives you the 23rd. Spring Game this year was the 25th. 2014, the 26th. 2013, the 20th. For reference, 2013 Relay was the 19th, 2014 was the 25th, and this year it was the 24th.
It pained me to draft Ryan, then Tyrod fell into my lap in later rounds. Wanted to see how his first game would play out before pulling the trigger on him though
It might not solidify it - Nijman got whipped pretty good on a couple plays - but it's definitely still up in the air. Seems to be similar to the Farris/Teller situation last year. One has all the athleticism you want, but the other actually knows what the heck is going on. Keep in mind that Nijman is still only about 270 too. He's going to struggle against more powerful rushers, just like Hansen will struggle against speed rushers. So if I was taking a crack at the depth chart, it'd probably read Nijman 1a, Hansen 1b at this point.

What'd you think of Huelskamp's play while he was in for the injured AM54? Watching him live, he looked OK, but his size seems to be a liability.
I saw that too. My guess is that they just want an explosive athlete out there to find someone in the wrong-colored jersey and remove him from the play.
So now that we are into the season, I have two questions:
1. Did anyone notice if Motu was showing the same tendencies in the OSU game?
2. How do our options stack up now, with Motu out? Huelskamp seems to have vaulted the other two.
Does Hansen coming out after the first two drives solidify Nijmans place as our LT?
That and two defenders went with Elliott into the flat, right?
