so then IMO if Durkin is being moved to TE then why isn't Lawson starting QB.... and let Motley do what he is comfortable doing which is wildcat. Maybe that's what will happen Saturday but good lord I just want Brewer back

if the kid doesn't have the goods at the position and would be an emergency type contingency to play there does it really matter though? Might as well get him over to a position that he may be able to develop in and if we did get that desperate that he was our best option at QB he's already familiar with the position.
Past performance does not necessarily indicate future success. Yes, we have been fortunate to have a few walk-ons be able to come in and really take over the mike position. But that doesn't mean we should be making a living by it - we have no indication that the next Cody Grimm or Jack Tyler is on the depth chart. AM's backup is a hair over 200lbs. That is unbelievably undersized for the position. I welcome any of them to step up and prove me wrong, but we absolutely need to experiment with our depth at backer right now.
I think a lot of our fanbase needs to stop always counting on the next great walk-on or breakthrough 2* recruit to always come through.
Flash forward to today. A fine Saturday. I just walked downtown (or what passes for one in Mathews, VA), and went to a street market. Ate fried shrimp standing on the sidewalk, had a nice pint in the local cafe, bought freshly popped kettle corn and pork rinds from a vendor and chatted with people I knew and didn't know. As hard as they tried to hurt us, to kill our spirits, to fundamentally change our lives, we go on being Americans, doing American things in the American way.
They failed.
I just don't see VT moving a QB to TE especially after we're already down 1 QB and Motley has not gone through 1 year with being healthy and seems to be injury prone .
I could see him moving in the Spring but not now.. with how much we use our TE's it will take him a while to learn it all.

nothing is wrong with walk-ons, but we offer kids scholarships for a reason last I checked. For every walk-on we have that contributes we have another 20 that never makes an impact.
As for riley i'm not saying he'll be an all-acc nickel but he's versatile enough to play it if needed or you could move clark to nickel and riley to free. TG cross trains the secondary for a reason.
They seemed to have a decent showing, but I would say far from 20K.

I agree with what you are saying, but there has been plenty of talent out of that area that I think would be contributing for us. Such as (just going back to 14-15 classes):
Jayln holmes (contributing at OSU already)
Quin blanding (no brainer would be a starter for us but we didn't have a shot there)
Derrick nnadi (contributed at FSU as a true freshmen although this is probably our deepest position already)
josh sweat (obviously would contribute IMO after his acl)
jahvoni simmons (highly rated honestly not sure if he'd contribute for us at LB maybe DE)
Jason Lewis (again think this is another highly rated guy that may flame out and not sure he'd play WR for us)
