Backer depth to Mike? Sure. Mike depth getting the first shot because they know, or should know, the calls...the major responsibility of the Mike.
Stroman to WR? Haven't really thought about that, but now that you say it, that's a good idea...my worry becomes who is the nickelback?
Lawson does have the highest ceiling, but as some of the comments have pointed out, not only is he behind in understanding the system, he is also behind in effort. Do you really want a guy out there who won't go 100% in practice?
I was stashed at Tech working on some asinine computer project for the Navy Battalion. The Gunney comes in and says Ensign you have to check this out. He brought me to the conference room right as the second tower got hit. I remember thinking to myself crazy Gunney watching war movies in the middle of the work morning then I saw the "live" in the corner of the screen and realized what had happened. Not too long later I was in the sand box for the first of several tours, lost way too many friends over there and still am losing them today...
Especially when one of the two was still debating on who to ask to HS homecoming this time last year.

ah... nope. Buzz had NOTHING close to what Arizona is offering RichRod. You need to research that more to understand it before commenting, or as I said you could go back over my comments. Plus Arizona and the entire city of Tucson is in love with RichRod, while Marquette admin was getting more and more at odds with Buzz. Sorry.. but nope. The situation between the two couldn't be more different.

So much talk, time, effort, and dollars are spent recruiting in the 757. Here are the results- only three starters (Chuck Clark, Bucky Hodges, and Andrew Motuapuaka.) When I look at players from the 757 who have gone elsewhere, their productivity (especially since the Justin Hunter/EJ Manuel/Tajh Boyd era) really hasn't been impressive. Part of the problem could be that the VHSL just isn't producing the quality of football player that they did in the 90's and 2000's and the recruiting folks just have not caught up?
I do know one thing. It sure appears that VT's staff appears to realize that Virginia isn't producing enough players- hence a more widespread focus on getting players nationally. So many key players are not from Virginia, it is almost startling.

One important thing to note for those of you who have asked about why Hodges didn't get more touches, as I noted in my preview I expected Ohio State to use similar coverage, but play much tighter to the line. They jumped the rub route and smash concepts underneath hard. As Mason does a terrific job of pointing out, that limited Bucky, however made Ohio State vulnerable to wheel routes and some deep balls.
I was actually down on Brewer early in the game. He left some yards out there and was inaccurate on 3rd down. Once he got comfortable (see improved pass protection with Nijman in) Malleck became a real factor over the middle.

Except after the fact rumors came out that Marquette wanted Buzz out anyways? I haven't heard anything about Arizona wanting to part ways with rich rod yet.

I'm really looking forward to see what we do at QB tomorrow. Motley should rightfully be No. 1 going in, but I also suspect we see a good bit of Durkin and Lawson as well. I also believe that if Motley struggles in the passing game, and Lawson comes out and shows his huge upside, the QB of the future may end up being the QB now. He has the highest ceiling of anyone currently on the roster, so I'm interested to see if he can step up and seize the opportunity. Interested to see all three of these guys get some time.
We need to figure something out at Mike. I'm not sold on AM at all. We need to experiment, and I think we need to give some of the depth at backer a shot there. Interested to see what the youngest Edmunds could do there.
Really concerned also with our DBs. Stroman seemed to struggle in the nickel role. I wonder if Mook or Terrell Edmunds can step into that spot that Stroman gets more looks at WR. It's always seemed to me that Stroman's athleticism was better suited on offense; he didn't seem like a natural DB to me. Since we need a 3rd WR, I wonder if we go in that direction. No doubt we will see some shuffling with the DBs.
I have posted too many times about the kind of money he is getting in Arizona. There is NO WAY in hell VT can buy that out. And I know from #souces in Tucson that they are making even more compensation available to him soon. It's just not going to happen.
This is the exact same thing people said about Buzz Williams when rumors came out that we were interested. How he was making so much money at Marquette and there was no way in hades we'd ever pry him out of there. I mean, substitute Buzz for RichRod, Marquette for Arizona, and Milwaukee for Tuscon and I think that exact quote was said on here.
