True about LT's status with the team but he was still very very raw as QB prospect at that time. I can't imagine Lawson is that far off.
As for the playbook situation with Motley, its not just the OSU game I'm referring to. The coach speak seems to imply they only have certain types of plays in mind for him period, different from what SL wants to do. And sample size is small, sure. But so what. Its CFB. Sample size isn't always available, especially in situations like this. If you wait for good sample size, your season is already over

JCC is 187 lbs. McMillan is 196. And that's probably a stretch. Do these look like every down backs that can run between the tackles 20+ touches a game? I'm not saying there's no use for these two on the team, because I think there definetly is. I just don't think they could handle the load. We need to establish a starting tailback to get in a rhythm and I think these two are more of a change of pace type back. Not every down type guys. As far a Trey goes. He does fit that mold of an every down back. He just doesn't seem to have quite the juice he used to have. And that's purely by the eyeball test. I could be completely wrong about him. You are on point with Shai's Knee. I know that is an issue. But if he's healthy, he has the speed, the size and the vision for what I invision an every down back to be. My whole point was that with Brewers injury, the offense will have to rely on the ground game more now. We have to pound the rock more and make the play clock work in our favor. I just think Shai is best suited for that role....if healthy
I finally made it back to Fud cental (AKA Tyson's Corner) this evening, just before rush hour, thank god. My 4 hour drive, 3 mint skoal dips, two tickets from VAs finest highway patrolmen (speeding and illegal tint... asshole) later... I was thinking to myself what a terrible way start to the season.
This post (and obviously looking back on the game now) is what makes the trip worth while and what makes me proud to be a Hokie. The moments last night in the stadium: entersandman, our go ahead TD, the crowd sticking it out and drowningout(nearly) every chant OSU started... this is what separates our fanbase from one like anOSU. There is no mention on our boards of firing anyone, or how the season is ruined by 1 game. It is a bunch of fans thinking about how we can improve, how great our fan base is, and let's move forward. My favorite part about these clips is Rece's (and ESPNs) excitement. Fowler was great to the Hokies as we were to him. On college gameday, Fowler once again gave us props for making Gameday what it is, and there is nothing better than being in someone's signing off speech. Let's remember that this was one game and we have a lot more (as a fan base) to be proud of than a 0-1 record.
We have a lot to be excited about for this year and our future in the ACC. I am looking forward to the day when we have the chance to be 2-1 against an OSU. We are heading back in the right direction with recruiting, coaching, and hunger. I will be back down to at least 2 more home games this year (and GT on the road). To the woman in the West stands who continually asked for me to sit down on offense as the rest of the stadium stood, I apologize, but not really.

I think you continue to work with Motley at QB1. From the scrimmage and game experience standpoint we know he can move the chains and did so at times last night.
Lawson should be getting the second most amount of snaps. You are absolutely right that he needs time and needs to be developed because he will be needed. I like Durkin and his work ethic, but DL needs as many reps as possible.

Seems like we have the right minds to come up with another creative solution like that. Something spring-loaded. Draft something up and have it on my desk by the end of the day.

I was blessed to be on the balcony outside the president's box, then watching again on ESPN, that entrance was OFF THE HOOK! Definitely did a lot to demonstrate our fantastic. The student section was strong ALL game. In defeat, I found it a proud night for Hokie Nation!
I agree, starting against OSU probably would have been to much, but these three games provide the best opportunities to give Lawson experience in games where he won't need to play perfectly to come away with a win. I think if we do go with Motley, we will be kicking ourselves if Brewer's four weeks creeps closer to eight. I like Motley, but he doesn't seem to be the guy to consistently get out there and win week in and week out.

I honestly didn't think the entire playbook was opened up vs OSU. Seen alot of the same formations and the same plays. Being a pro style offense, especially with the positions we are strong at, I'd say we do have some power sets. Maybe Scot just didn't think it would work well vs OSU. I'm not sure of the exact number but I remember us going under center possibly twice when we were outside of the red zone.
Then what would you say the top objective should be from the standpoint of the QBs? Motley has been in this system four years. I don't think he's going to have a come to Jesus moment now that makes him a prototypical NFL style QB. He's a known commodity at this point.
He's also injury-prone. Some of the hits Brewer peeled himself up after would have sent Motley to the sideline. So while all the talk might be on who the starter is right now, I assure you that Motley's backup WILL see the field in significant situations.
So I stand by it. Developing Lawson is our top objective from a QB standpoint. Because we are going to need him at some point, and that's likely to be this year.
I call, and raise you averages of 11 pts and 235 yards allowed per game after the next 10 games are included to average out yesterday's hiccup. Plus I throw in 1 swift Foster-kick in Moto's pants to "encourage" him going forward.
